Mindflesh (UK DVD) | Horror Movie, DVD, & Book Reviews, News, Interviews at Dread Central (http://www.dreadcentral.com/reviews/mindflesh-uk-dvd)

Now, if this all sounds a bit weird, that?s because it sure as **** is. Apparently based around Buddhist philosophy, Mindflesh holds its own as a total head**** during the initial act, before evolving into something much more challenging and provocative: a sensory nightmare worthy of Cronenberg and Barker. Director Robert Pratten uses every single trick he can with the limited budget, while deftly avoiding visual clich?, to keep his audience as disoriented and discombobulated as the protagonist. Disturbing and affecting imagery abounds -- such as, the bald, white-eyed, naked and bloody Goddess falling into the gently caressing arms of the lead while the chilling score whisks what you are witnessing straight into the aforementioned Barker territory; or an ensnared and gagged Jackson held by his captors using intestine-like tendrils attached to his abdominal growths, while digital hourglasses chronicle the imminent deaths of his friends.

A Lure: Teen Fight Club (DVD) | Horror Movie, DVD, & Book Reviews, News, Interviews at Dread Central (http://www.dreadcentral.com/reviews/lure-teen-fight-club-dvd)

Teenage girls in a small town are being abducted, held captive in animal cages inside a barn, dressed up in sexy outfits, and forced with remote control electric shock collars to fight each other to the death in a makeshift wrestling ring as the community's wealthiest citizens hoot and holler like the ?Married with Children? studio audience while wagering big bucks on which girl will exit the ring alive; the mysterious organizer monitors and records the spectacle via close-circuit television, always shot in darkened silhouette from behind like Inspector Gadget?s arch-nemesis.

Folks, this is a real movie. I am not making any of this up. Somebody did. They titled it A Lure: Teen Fight Club, and quietly slipped it out on DVD the end of last year with less fanfare than a motion picture with such a wacko premise deserves. I want to take this opportunity to thank those people for gracing the world with such wonderful rubbish.

24Framespersecond.net - Korean extreme horror - MISSING: Review (http://www.24framespersecond.net/index.php?/24frames/news_details/korean-extreme-horror-missing-review/)

Missing offers a harrowing account of abduction, torture, and murder, and the fight against all odds for survival. It’s a simple premise based on fact, but there’s nothing here to suggest that we’re watching anything new. Veteran actor Moon Sung Keun steals the show with his mesmerising performance as the psychopathic killer whose softly spoken mannerisms give way to terrifying brutality. Choo Ja Hyun (Bloody Tie) is the only person standing in his way, a beautiful young woman determined to save her kidnapped sister, who also happens to be beautiful by the way. It’s a familiar equation then - beautiful girls + naked flesh + creepy psychopath + really big meat cleaver = bloodshed, torture and an entertaining night in.

THIS MUST GET MADE!!!!!!

CHUD.com — Hard-R Humpty Dumpty May Still Happen (http://www.chud.com/33693/hard-r-humpty-dumpty-may-still-happen/)

It has been almost two years since reports first surfaced that David R Ellis (Final Destination 2, Snakes on a Plane) was going to helm a geniusly loony horror film called Humpty Dumpty, about a pair of backwoods swamp rednecks who find a female alien and proceed to rape the **** out of her (naturally; what do those slutty aliens expect, dressin? like that?). The alien then escapes and dies giving birth to a freaky egg-lookin? mother****er, hellbent on vengeance. Frankly, just that E.T. meets I Spit On Your Grave set-up is madness. Then toss in the mutant egg monster? How anyone could not get excited about this film, I do not know.

Woman, The (2011) | Horror Movie, DVD, & Book Reviews, News, Interviews at Dread Central (http://www.dreadcentral.com/reviews/woman-2011)

Although maybe not McKee?s intent, it may just open people?s eyes to the reality of what some women in our glorious world go through every day of their lives. McKee wanted us to feel dread. We did that. He wanted us to feel pity. We did that, too. McKee?s gut-wrenching aspiration, which I can only compare to the sickness of A Serbian Film, will remain in my memory forever as some things cannot be unseen.
Recommended, but be careful what you wish for.

Final Thoughts

Matt Reeves delivers much more than a simple remake of the popular Swedish novel and film 'Let the Right One In.' 'Let Me In' is an alternate take on the plot about two melancholic children dealing with a cruel and cold world. It's a wonderfully captivating picture which elegantly blends horror tropes within a harrowing, dramatic tale of finding love in the most unusual place. This Blu-ray edition of the film features excellent picture and a marvelous audio presentation that fans will love. Anchor Bay also offers a healthy collection of supplements, along with a short comic, earning this package a strong recommendation.

Sounds like a very deserving flick got a very good disc. Look, just buy this damned thing on Tuesday...and, if you haven't seen the original, pick that up off the shelf too(just make sure your copy says THEATRICAL SUBTITLES).

Midnight Son (2011) | Horror Movie, DVD, & Book Reviews, News, Interviews at Dread Central (http://www.dreadcentral.com/reviews/midnight-son-2011)

Vampire movies, man. Every time I think that I'm totally sick of them, a filmmaker will come around with a new flick that proves why those blood-sucking creatures of the night have so much bite. For years now we've been exposed mainly to two kinds of vamps - the sparkly brooding emo fashion victims and the far preferred ugly vicious killing machines. What a lot of people forget, though, is that there is a third kind introduced by the legendary George A. Romero in 1977's toothy little tale Martin. The good news? Director Scott Leberecht hasn't forgotten, and as a result his latest film, Midnight Son, comes as a truly fresh breath of air.

Richard Raaphorst has revealed a promotional piece for his latest effort over at Twitch Film (the editor there is producing in some capacity, I believe). Frankenstein's Army posits the question: What if the journal of Victor Frankenstein fell into Adolf Hitler's hands?

Raaphorst has a distinct fascination for World War II and Nazis. His previous endeavor Worst Case Scenario - which spanned two trailers, but never became a feature film - was about Nazi zombies. The filmmaker is utilizing strong internet buzz to try and generate funds for Frankenstein's Army.

Look up those trailers for Worst Case Scenario. It's too bad he couldn't get the funding because those faux trailers were AWESOME!!!!!!

I am not exactly a fan of pedophiles, but I am not going to lie, I am a fan of several of Allen's and Polanski's works. Chinatown, in my opinion, is one of the greatest films ever made.

It confuses me, that is, separating the person from their work.

That's come up in the past re:Mel Gibson...I just think it's easier for people to single out Salva, who is a repulsive damaged person, because he is a maker of low brow horror films. Allen/Polanski make artful fiilms so,for some reason, people can forgive a lot easier. At least Salva did time. I find it repulsive that Michael Vick is so adored when, i.m.o. his crime was far more horrible than all of the horror movies i have watched combined.

I agree 100% and, admittedly, had a much harder time with Woody Allen because I do like some of his movies immensely.

And, Vick... yeah, **** that *******.

Finally the full trailer for Dylan Dog is here in time for its March 16th release in Italian cinemas, and it's home to some pretty bitchin' monster action! Dig it!
The film, directed by Kevin Munroe, stars Brandon Routh, Sam Huntington, Anita Briem, Taye Diggs, Kyle Russell Clements, Peter Stormare, and Olympic grappler Kurt Angle.
In the film Dylan Dog (Brandon Routh) is forced back into his nightmare investigations after he is approached by a woman who claims to have seen her father brutally murdered by a mysterious creature. With his street smarts, his gun, and a set of paranormal weapons, Dylan attempts to restore order both above and below ground.

wow, woulda been R

"I couldn't really get past anybody that would spend the money that it would take to do it and keep an R-rating," he explained of why the project failed to develop, "Alternately, I wasn't really interested in pursuing a PG-13 version. Because the R rating is inherent. Little Sisters and injections and the whole thing. I just wanted to really, really make it a movie where, four days later, you're still shivering and going, "Jesus Christ!"... It's a movie that has to be really, really scary, but you also have to create a whole underwater world, so the pricetag is high. We just didn't have any takers on an R-rated movie with that pricetag."

Jason Mewes To Face Off Against The Watermen | Horror Movie, DVD, & Book Reviews, News, Interviews at Dread Central (http://www.dreadcentral.com/news/42585/jason-mewes-face-against-watermen)

When a group of young, rich friends led by the dynamic Trailor (Jason Mewes) set out for a deep sea fishing trip aboard a million-dollar dreamboat, an electrical fire rocks the ship, destroying their electrical system and engine, leaving them marooned with no communications in the deep Atlantic. Little did they know that their actions disturbed the native folk who despise outsiders.
These watermen are the anomalous sea clan locally known as the ?Guineamen? who inhabit the nearby marshy islands. They?re a preternatural and isolated community of fishermen who date back to Cornwallis? army of 1781. They rarely interact with the outside world and are rumored to have webbed feet. And now the young friends find themselves starring into the salty eyes of these ancient clan men.
A bad situation turns worse when they are drugged and captured by the watermen. They awake horrified and confused; they realize they are trapped on a small island, and their plans for escape turn to plans of attack. It?s a fight for survival as the friends try to escape the remote island and merciless clutches of the watermen. Will they survive?

Oh, but seriously, you know how much I love that movie. It's an adaptation of Henry James' Turn of the Screw, and what works about that novella is the ambiguity, and that movie captures it perfectly.

Speaking of awesome horror movies from the '60's...have you peeps watched this?

*love it* It was based on Shirley Jackson's novel (I read way too many books), but it's typical '60's Horror goodness, that is, psychological and atmospheric as hell.

I was sooooo happy when that came out on dvd. There was another show with John Glover as Satan and one of the guys from Thirtysomething as his reluctant agent on Earth that I wish they would put together. It was on Fox, in the Friday death slot...think it was called Purgatory or something like that.

This sounds like dark fun. And it already got in trouble for a poster it submitted to the MPAA. :headhurt:

"In 1989, six year old Martin Bristoll was kidnapped from his backyard swing in Minersville Pennsylvania. Graham Sutter, a psychotic recluse, kept Martin imprisoned on his derelict pig farm, forcing him to witness and participate in unspeakable horrors. Chosen at random, his victim's screams were drowned out by the rural countryside. For five years, Martin's whereabouts have remained a mystery, until 17 year old Allison Miller (Alexandra Daddario) comes to live with her Uncle, Jonathan (Michael Biehn). While exploring her new surroundings, Allison discovers things aren't quite right at the farmhouse down the road. Her curiosity disturbs a hornet's nest of evil and despair that once torn open, can never be closed."

Patrick Lussier Tells Bleeding Cool About His Hellraiser And Pinhead Bleeding Cool Comic Book, Movies and TV News and Rumors (http://www.bleedingcool.com/2011/02/25/patrick-lussier-tells-bleeding-cool-about-his-hellraiser-and-pinhead/)

Todd Farmer and I are actually just fleshing out the whole story, no pun intended, right now. We?re going through, mapping out the story and the odyssey that takes place in the film. At the same time we?re doing some artwork and things to support that. As that story is built, then the script will get fully underway.

It seems obvious to us that Hellraiser be in 3D but it isn?t something that we?ve determined completely yet. It?s something we want to talk about at the moment we get to doing all the make-up tests and the character design, and making that the 3D is something complimentary to all that and not distracting.

In a way? Pinhead is a main character, but it?s all about definition. He has relatively very little screen time in the first film? probably the real answer to your question ?Does Pinhead have a lot of screentime in this movie and is he an important character?? is ?Yes and No? and it?s all in how you view it. I?m trying to be suitably cryptic? though I will tell you, one of the first images you see is somebody with pins all over them.

Personally I hope they do this in 3d. Lussier is the one guy who gets it. Imagine Hell in 3d. Brilliant.

Oh, b.t.w. GO SEE DRIVE ANGRY 3D!!!!!!

Harry is creeped the f'd out by Jeffrey Dean Morgan in THE RESIDENT from Hammer Films!!!

Ain't It Cool News: The best in movie, TV, DVD, and comic book news. (http://www.aintitcool.com/node/48650)

Third, Jeffrey Dean Morgan with Christopher Lee as his father are just supremely ****ing creepy. But let me tell you about the film...

Gals with crushes on Jeffrey Dean Morgan. Avoid. This will crush your crush. He's genuinely so damn creepy that you won't be able to think anything, but... GET THE **** AWAY FROM ME, YOU EVIL ****ED UP ****! Jeffrey shot for the big green wall in the backfield on this one and nailed it. He is incredibly messed up. Where his character goes, what his character does... it's nightmares man. Makes PACIFIC HEIGHTS look as limp as it was.

However, if you like disturbing creepy, nightmare inducing ick-outs - Hammer's THE RESIDENT is exactly made to order. It is sexy & wrong. Horrifying, suspenseful and has many great jump moments. But if this isn't your type of film - you'll hate it - it puts terrible unsafe notions into your head. And if you hate landlords, woo boy, this is a doozy. Jeffrey Dean is easily the worst landlord ever. I mean, Norman Bates just ran a rinky dink motel... but he didn't do what Jeffrey's MAX does. ICK!

I wonder if it applies to mancrushes as well. B.T.W. I don't care what anyone says, I have watched The Losers repeatedly on Showtime(?) and I maintain that it is a cool slice of harmless fun.

If the After Dark Films/Syfy co-production Area 51 is to be remembered in the annals of filmdom for anything at all, it will be for the appearance of what may very well be cinema's first ever handicapped killer alien. The way this bipedal creature's stick-like arms go all the way down to the ground to help it move evoked imagery of a crippled person using crutches for assisted walking. Think Jimmy from "South Park" if Jimmy looked like Pumpkinhead mated with Xtro and a preying mantis and all he had on his mind was killing everyone in sight as part of a jail break instead of telling lame jokes. I can honestly say I have never seen an alien in a movie quite like this particular one

Because You Asked For It: A Horror Movie About Hoarders | Film School Rejects (http://www.filmschoolrejects.com/news/horror-suffocate-hoarders-adria-petty.php)

In one corner, a bunch of ratty magazines. In another, a mountain of moldy yogurt. All over the floor, a herd of wild cats roams free. The horror, the horror, the hoarding. So it?s a pretty big television phenomenon, and soon, Adria Petty will be directing a film called Suffocate featuring a hoarder who kills.

For those outside of the know on one of the most depressing shows of all time, a hoarder is someone who compulsively collects things, surrounding himself with rotting junk even as he goes to get more. How do they spin that into a horror concept?

Lionsgate Rolls the Dice on ‘Cube’ | Film School Rejects (http://www.filmschoolrejects.com/news/lionsgate-cube-3d.php)

More than a decade before Splice (and most notably before Saw) director Vincenzo Natali made a film called Cube wherein a group of strangers woke up inexplicably in a maze of cubes that had been booby trapped with an appetite for destruction. In many ways a forerunner to the Saw films, Cube might now replace the horror franchise as Lionsgate?s go-to for October.

According to Shock Til You Drop, the company is planning on returning to the film with the geometrically accurate Cube 3D. It?s unclear whether it will be a sequel, prequel or a remake, but it could definitely end up as a pinch hitter for a trap-based horror franchise that made Lionsgate an intense amount of money.

While the thought of a 3d Cube movie is interesting, none of the horrible sequels have been able to capture the quality of the first one. And I haven't seen that in years so I don't even know how well it holds up anymore. I remember the acting was a little shaky and it had the overall feel of an hour long Twilight Zone.:target:

Holy ****! JD, you hear about this?!?! I just got a press release about it.

The Collective, a full-service entertainment management and content company, along with AMC Theatres (AMC), a leading theatrical and exhibition company, and popular horror website BloodyDisgusting.com, announce today a film distribution partnership dedicated to acquiring and marketing the best horror and thriller titles from the festival and international markets.

The Collective has acquired the rights to several films out of horror- and genre-heavy festivals such as the Toronto International Film Festival, the Berlin International Film Festival, Slamdance, Sitges Film Festival and Fantastic Fest, and plans on releasing the films across multiple platforms.

AMC will show a new title in the series each month, at least twice a week, across 32 key markets, including a special Friday midnight show, beginning in May. After their theatrical exhibition at AMC, films from the series will be available to fans of the genre in DVD, Video on Demand (VOD), online and television. Released though The Collective's home-video partnership with Vivendi Universal, DVDs for titles in the Bloody Disgusting series will feature unrated content, bonus features and special packaging for each title.

We see a lot of horror films that never make it to the consumer here in the States," said Brad Miska, Bloody Disgusting co-head. "We hope to change that by releasing only films we personally love and think the horror community will embrace. Horror movies are a social experience. The success of Bloody Disgusting and other horror communities proves that concept. Bloody Disgusting represents a society of hardcore fans and we plan to activate them through these screenings, bringing the conversation off of the blogs and into the theater itself, while creating a unique experience for each filmgoer that motivates them to come back every month for the experience itself, not just the films."

The first films to be released under this venture are:

*

COLD FISH - From Sion Sono, the director of LOVE EXPOSURE and SUICIDE CLUB and based on a true story, it came as no surprise that Sono's brutal serial killer film COLD FISH received international acclaim on the festival circuit, playing Toronto, Venice, Pusan, Fantastic Fest, and others. When Shamoto's teenage daughter was caught stealing, a generous middle-aged man helps to resolve the situation. The man and his wife offer to have Shamoto's daughter work at their fish store. Shamoto soon discovers the horrific truth of the seemingly perfect couple…who force him to get his hands dirty in their brutal business. Inspired by a true events, COLD FISH is a bloodcurdling suspense drama that unveils the underlying insanity of an ordinary man.
*

RAMMBOCK - Produced by Melanie Berke and Sigrid Hoerner, written by Benjamin Hessler and directed by Marvin Kren, the Fantastic Fest favorite marks the first German foray into the zombie genre. Kren's short but action packed feature follows a group of strangers attempting to fight off a horde of infected zombies in a Berlin apartment complex.
*

YELLOWBRICKROAD - Produced by Eric Hungerford and directed and written by Andy Mitton and Jesse Holland and starring Cassidy Freeman (SMALLVILLE), Anessa Ramsey (THE SIGNAL), and Lee Wilkof (BEFORE THE DEVIL KNOWS YOU'RE DEAD) In the Fall of 1940, the entire population of Friar, NH abandoned their homes and walked up an ancient trail, never to be seen alive again. Their fates have remained a mystery for over 70 years, until a team of researchers discover the trailhead and attempt to track the path the doomed citizens of Friar took.

Bill Hader Says the Judd Apatow Slasher Flick is Still On | Film School Rejects (http://www.filmschoolrejects.com/news/bill-hader-judd-apatow-slasher-movie.php)

Hader spills a few details; ?I play a guy who finds out that his girlfriend was basically a Laurie Strode type. She?s been hiding the fact that 15 years ago she survived this horrible night, and the way I find this out is that I inadvertently take her back to her hometown as a surprise and reawaken all the evil. It?s kind of a getting over your girlfriend?s past kinda thing. It?s sort of like having to deal with, ?You did what!??? So there it is, the patented human element. Apatow is taking the idea of dating a girl who has lived through a slasher film and equating it to dating a girl who has a more sordid past than you might like. Speaking from experience, I can say that I would sometimes rather hear that a girl I?m dating has lived through a mass slaughter rather than some of the other things I?ve been subjected to. ?You did what? With how many guys? Oh, but they?re all dead? Thank God.?

Some films send their characters to hell and back, but few do so with the genre-bending, mind-****ing intensity of Kill List. Equal parts drama, thriller, and horror, the movie takes both characters and viewers on a hellish descent down the bloody rabbit hole with stops along the way for mystery, murder, and flesh-busting madness.

Jay (Neil Maskell) has been out of work for eight months, and his wife Shel (MyAnna Buring) is not about to let him forget it. They fight constantly about finances pausing periodically to assure their young son that mommy and daddy still love each other before returning to the fray. Jay?s friend Gal (Michael Smiley) comes over for dinner along with his new girlfriend, Fiona (Emma Fryer), and the four spend a raucous night of laughs and alcohol punctuated with an ugly and awkward outburst between the feuding couple.

It should be noted that Jay?s past career was that of a hit-man, and when Gal offers him the opportunity to get back into the game he jumps at the chance. The two of them partner up on an assignment for a mysterious client who slowly doles out their targets one at a time. As the hits progress so does Jay?s increasing blood-lust and desire to inflict pain, and soon the act of killing becomes less of a job and more an act of sadistic righteousness.

Trust me when I say that you have never seen a hammer used as effectively, cruelly, and beautifully as you will here. Seriously, prepare to wince.

CHUD.com — DVD REVIEW: BIRDEMIC: SHOCK AND TERROR (http://www.chud.com/42477/dvd-review-birdemic-shock-and-terror/)

The hype on this movie is correct. I have never seen a movie this bad in my life. The Room is visual poetry compared to this film. Plan 9 is nuanced in retrospect. Writer\Director\Producer\Visionary James Nguyen (pronounced Win!!) has done something here that tends to defy description because, no matter how you try to explain it to someone, it just has to be seen to be believed. I hope I?m not over-hyping it, but this movie will climb into your soul and take purchase there, forever shading your day-to-day with a rosy glow of epic, epic win. Now that this movie exists for people to watch and is readily available on DVD for mass consumption, there is nothing standing in the way of you and your dreams? if your dreams involve being an actor or filmmaker or producer or special effects technician or cinematographer or if you just wanna smoke cigarettes and hold a boom. You will have no fear because nothing that you do could ever, ever come close to being in the town across the river from the neighborhood of anything this bad. This movie is the antithesis of all that is good. And I loved every second of it.

Pretty much covers what I have heard about this. One of those 'so bad it's good' movies. Rent it with a case o'suds and some friends. Or just the suds. :beerman:

Hellraiser: Revelations (2011) | Horror Movie, DVD, & Book Reviews, News, Interviews at Dread Central (http://www.dreadcentral.com/reviews/hellraiser-revelations-2011)

There is no amount of suffering Pinhead and his cenobite army could inflict that can compare with the agony of sitting through Hellraiser: Revelations, a desperate final cash-grab made without a single ounce of thought or discernible talent. Not only does this entry make all the other sequels seem great in comparison, you could easily confuse this for some Hellraiser mockbuster from the folks at The Asylum.

...In case you were living under a rock, this production was met with fan controversy (as much as could be generated for a thankless DVD sequel) when the great Doug Bradley announced that he would not be returning to the role he helped to originate. Considering the quality of the other sequels, that was the biggest red flag of all and should have been the "revelation" the producers needed to axe this project, but they foolishly went ahead and recast one of the MOST ICONIC ROLES IN HORROR HISTORY with some random new guy. Imagine if they made a direct-to-video Evil Dead IV, casting Mike "The Situation" Sorrentino in place of Bruce Campbell, and you have a pretty good idea of how well this works. By comparison the new Pinhead looks and acts like the lead singer of some bad Norwegian Hellraiser-inspired goth band.

BD Horror News - IFC Midnight Releases Art and Trailer for 'Choose' (http://www.bloody-disgusting.com/news/23868)

"The peace and tranquility of an idyllic, suburban city become suddenly broken. Behind the picket fence and manicured lawn, teenage Sara awakens startled as a rush of cold air gently pushes her bedroom door open. Across the hall her parent's bedroom door lies ajar. She calls for her parents but gets no response. She enters their bedroom and as her eyes adjust to the darkness she sees her parents on the bed hog-tied and gagged. Before she can react she is grabbed roughly by the hair and slammed against the wall. "Do what I say or you die" Scar Lip tells her.

He turns over an expertly crafted hourglass filled with blood and coolly instructs her, "I'm going to kill your mother or your father. You have sixty seconds to decide which one." She begs and pleads with him, but all Scar Lip tells her is that if she doesn't choose then both parents die. And this is just the opening sequence of the chilling horror Choose."

Bloody Disgusting Horror - "The Divide" Movie Info, Review, Headlines, Gallery (http://www.bloody-disgusting.com/review/4859)

The Divide, the latest film by Xavier Gens, opens not with a whimper but a bang as missiles level New York while Eva (Lauren German) watches the famous skyline turn a cloudy orange. As the residents fly down the stairs to escape their crumbling surroundings, a few manage to make it into the bomb-shelter basement where Mickey (Michael Biehn), the building?s super, is holding up. The handful of survivors ? including stepbrothers Josh (Milo Ventimiglia) and Adrien (Ashton Holmes), their friend Bobby (Michael Eklund), a frightened mother and daughter (Rosanna Arquette and Abbey Thickson), Eva?s lesser and more passive half Sam (Ivan Gonzalez), and the selfish Delvin (Courtney B. Vance) ? are at first merely grateful to be alive, but slowly succumb to the realization that that they may starve to death and never see the light of day again after men in hazmat suits seal them in, causing extreme levels of paranoia and distrust that reduces them to a caveman-like state of savagery.

Like Frontiere(s), The Divide showcases the downfall of humanity through the contrast of socially-accepted normalcy and the dark, primal nature we all have within ourselves. Trying to be authoritative, Mickey?s fascist antics give rise to mutiny and an anarchist ruling class, with Josh and Bobby in charge, where people are kept as sex slaves and dementia and cowardice run rampant. The film proves that there is no answer between whether the chicken or the egg comes first; as soon as a sense of order rears its head, chaos is born, giving way to order shortly thereafter and so on and so forth. One cannot exist without the other. For every step of progression the characters make towards making sense of things on their quest for survival, they take two back.

Cannot wait to see this.

Liv Tyler Talks THE STRANGERS 2 and THE HOBBIT (http://collider.com/liv-tyler-the-strangers-2-the-hobbit/81604/)

As some of you are aware, the first Strangers was made for under $10 million and it went on to make over $80 million at the worldwide box office. With that kind of success, it?s no surprise that Rogue Pictures has been talking about making a sequel. Early reports pegged Liv Tyler returning and that filming could begin this year. However, Tyler told me, ?I don?t know anything about?they?ve been talking about it forever and I know there is a screenplay that Bryan Bertino wrote which I?ve read part of but not the whole?I don?t know if it?s ever going to happen. Bryan is not directing it and I?m not really in it. I?d have to decide, but it?s not about me.?

Fairly surprised a second film hasn't been made, especially looking at those numbers. I think the first is a really successful flick. Just the right amount of slow creepy combined with a really nice '70's grainy faded out style. From what I know about giallo this would certainly qualify. Kinda reminds me of 'The Collector'. The best part of both flicks is that the motivations of the evil are never completely explained. Collector has a sequel coming, and my worst fear is that they will over-explain the villain. Sometimes it's ok to not know everything.

Roid Rage is not a movie about a psychotic body-builder gone amok. In fact, it's a misleading title in that the main character doesn't have "killer hemorrhoids," but instead has a monster living in his ass. That's right. In. His. Ass. Think Teeth, but in the butt and not nearly as subtle. We follow "Sammy," who, despite his terrible condition, keeps hiring prostitutes to toss his salad. That they all end up with their faces bit off seems to bother him, but not so much that he stops. And that's about the last coherent thing this movie does.

Short Film of the Day: Doug Jones Stars in ‘The Candy Shop’ | Film School Rejects (http://www.filmschoolrejects.com/features/short-film-doug-jones-the-candy-shop.php#)

Why Watch? Doug Jones has played some beloved characters from his turn in the Hellboy movies to the freaky monsters of Pan?s Labyrinth. However, this might be his creepiest role ever (and the most you ever get to see his face).

This beautifully shot short film tells the story of a candy shop owner (played by Jones) who looks like the Gene Wilder Willy Wonka and Jigsaw had a love child that was born with lupus. He?s ghoulish, and he has a machine that turns little girls into candy.

But it?s okay, right? Because there?s a market for it.

One young man is lured into working for him and must choose between making the money to keep food on his family?s table and keeping his soul.

The whole fantasy is a parable about child sex trafficking. It?s a haunting movie, and it was made to help raise awareness and money to help stop sex slavery. A great cause, and a great piece of art.

THE PRESENCE Review (http://collider.com/the-presence-review/85198/)

Creating an original idea and executing it are very different things. The Presence manages to succeed at giving a unique story, but its implementation leaves something to be desired. Atmosphere takes hold in director Tom Provost?s debut supernatural thriller, following a woman (Mira Sorvino) visiting a cabin in the woods as an apparition stalks about. Where the film really makes its mark is how it turns genre staples on their head, but getting there may leave some underwhelmed. The film builds to an exciting climax that will leave many talking due to the interesting notions it puts forth or the confusing way it is expressed?but they will be talking.

Sounds intersting.

CHUD.com — DVD REVIEW: THE LAST LOVECRAFT: RELIC OF CTHULHU (http://www.chud.com/47022/dvd-review-the-last-lovecraft-relic-of-cthulhu/)

The horror comedy tone of the film easily owes a lot to films like Evil Dead 2 or Shaun of the Dead, and while the film is neither as memorable nor as funny as those films, it doesn?t hurt the genre. It never tries to be too serious, even though there is a lot of death sprinkled throughout, but it?s all very light in tone. The characters have some decent chemistry together, but my problem is that you never really feel like they?re on a ?journey?. It doesn?t even feel like they travel more than a mile from where they live, and the climax of the film takes place in some sort of open canyon in a trailer. The final battle is pretty anti-climactic and poorly done, but you can never be too pissed at a film that was never aiming higher than ?B-movie? anyway. This is the kind of film that you?d hate the guts out of if it was made by anybody you had even remotely heard of before, or had reason to expect greatness from.

The film is heavily set up for a sequel, and while the intentions of the filmmakers to make another one is unclear, with a bigger budget it could actually not suck. I?m not saying this is a film you need to rush out and buy, but if you get a chance to see it and like Lovecraft (if you don?t, kill yourself) you might not be disappointed. If you?re a fan of Lovecraft it isn?t close to being the best thing he?s ever been attached to (that?s Re-Animator for you folks playing at home) but you could do far, far, worse. It?s a mostly silly film that doesn?t take itself all too seriously. I hate to spoil this, but the titular baddie never makes an appearance other than during the animated sequence in the film. Which is pretty disappointing, because I think you?ll all agree that the presence of Cthulhu (even a poor-CG Cthulhu) would elevate the quality of almost anything it was in. Oh well. Here?s hoping (ok, maybe not hoping?..maybe ?mildly concerned for the potential existence of? works better) there?s a sequel!

CHUD.com ? The B Movie Column 4.9.11 (http://www.chud.com/46929/the-b-movie-column-4-9-11/)

Takes a while, SCROLL DOWN...but a really good take on Of Unknown Origin. Peter Weller vs. a really big rat. Me and my stoner buddy went to see this during our, 'let's get high and go see a really bad flick' phase(Lou Ferrigno's HERCULES owns the category), anyway...this was one of those, shoulda been a laugh but wasn't. Good flick.

Re-Animator The Musical Extends Itself Like an Unfurled Intestine | Horror Movie, DVD, & Book Reviews, News, Interviews at Dread Central (http://www.dreadcentral.com/news/43736/re-animator-musical-extends-itself-unfurled-intestine)

Good news for you folks in Los Angeles who have not witnessed the absolute mad genius that is Re-Animator The Musical! More dates have been added (including midnight shows) and more gore will be flowing freely! I'm STILL washing the blood off me! What an experience!

Starting April 22nd, midnight shows on Friday nights and 3:30 pm matinee performances on Sunday afternoons have been added at The Steve Allen Theater. Hit up that link for directions and ticket info. You WON'T be sorry! Hell, if you live out of state, believe us when we say this is totally worth flying in for!

In 1985 Stuart Gordon directed his first feature film and created a sensation. It was ?Re-Animator,? a smashing success based on a horror story by H.P. Lovecraft. The film delivered as many laughs as it did screams, making it a cult classic among horror fans, and won a Critic?s Prize at the Cannes Film Festival. Now Gordon is back with his co-writers Dennis Paoli and William J. Norris and composer/lyricist Mark Nutter to turn ?Re-Animator? into a musical for the stage.

Special effects are being done by the same guys who did them for the 1985 movie: Tony Doublin, John Naulin, and John Beuchler. And the blood will flow so freely that the first rows will literally be designated as a ?splash zone.? Needless to say, the show is not for small children.

Mad Monster Magazine is ALIVE! | Horror Movie, DVD, & Book Reviews, News, Interviews at Dread Central (http://www.dreadcentral.com/news/43735/mad-monster-magazine-alive)

From the Press Release
In the tradition of iconic horror mags of the past century, MAD MONSTER is creepy and creative entertainment and media commentary at its best. As early as 1896 when Georges M?li?s presented his film, ?House of the Devil?, Horror, Sci-Fi and Fantasy movies have captured the imagination of the public. And by the 1950?s ?classic? horror magazines began to do more than just delight readers. These periodicals actually turned the spotlight from the stars in front of the camera to the artists and craftspeople behind the scenes - the people who MADE the monsters we love to loathe. Disciples of the monster mag movement turned out to be people like Steven Spielberg, George Lucas, Guillermo Del Toro, Tom Hanks, Billy Bob Thornton, Peter Jackson and many others.

ok so...

Choose - ShockTillYouDrop.com (http://www.shocktillyoudrop.com/news/reviewsnews.php?id=18713)

which I posted about earlier on this thread is a wash, but they reference The Killing Gene...

As I watched Choose, I kept being reminded of the vastly superior The Killing Gene from 2007, directed by Tom Shankland, who went on to make the amazing “killer kids” movie The Children.

The Killing Gene, known in its film festival life as Waz before being re-titled for domestic DVD release, is a film noir-influenced take on a killer who forces life-or-death decisions on carefully selected victims. While it sounds very similar to Choose on the surface, The Killing Gene has what Choose doesn't have: a very good screenplay, good acting and solid directing.

Want to see a memorable and effective riff on the ideas behind Seven and Saw? Skip Choose and seek out The Killing Gene.

Love Killing Gene...Stellen Skaarsgard is awesome. And The Children was pretty solid too.

Exclusive Update: Adam Green on Hatchet 3 | Horror Movie, DVD, & Book Reviews, News, Interviews at Dread Central (http://www.dreadcentral.com/news/43828/exclusive-update-adam-green-hatchet-3)

"I am not writing the script for Hatchet 3 right now as I am focused on Killer Pizza and another project that hasn't even been announced yet," says franchise creator Adam Green. "While I intend to see Danielle Harris' "Marybeth" character return in the third installment, nothing is in stone yet, and the actual production is still a ways away as right now ArieScope is finishing Chillerama and working on other projects that need to wrap up first."

"Given what my next year or two looks like right now, I may just be producing Hatchet 3 as stated in our official press release, so who knows what direction this could all go in under a possibly different writer or director. I'm staying as open-minded as possible. Everything else you're reading online is just excitement and enthusiasm for the next Hatchet film, which is terrific to see, but there are no accurate facts in it and there is nothing to report at this time."
