I'm seriously thinking over 100 wins or bust this season. Astros in the weak NL moving to the AL West now? No excuses.

Then again, the Angels always struggled against the crappy Mariners over the last few seasons... so maybe the Astros will destroy us. =\ But yeah, I'm eyeing over 100 wins because of the following reasons...

1) Astros - Because of what I said above ^^^

2) Albert Pujols - Everyone said it was the worse year of his career and he still went .285, 30 HR, 105 RBIs. Can you imagine what he can pull off on an average or even good year? That speaks volume alone.

3) Mike Trout - Definitely hoping that there isn't a sophomore slump. If he can put up remotely the same numbers as his rookie season (.326, 30 HR, 83 RBIs, 129 Runs, and 49 SBs) or better... just imagine what could happen!

4) Josh Hamilton - Biggest signing this offseason for the Halos. .285, 43 HR, 128 RBI, 103 Runs. WOW. Again, if he can remotely match those numbers we'll be in amazing shape.

5) CJ Wilson - He had a bit of an off year as well like Pujols. I am confident that he'll definitely bounce back... and when he does, our 1-2 punch of Weaver and Wilson will be scary as hell.

So yeah, that's why I'm expecting 100 plus wins from the Halos. :)

Only thing is TooCool... Josh won't be playing in Texas anymore, and his numbers won't be as good now. I still think he will be a stud but not as good as before. I'm thinking about 30 to 35 HR from him next season

I'll take it! Along with Pujols improving, Trout continuing his strong play, and Trumbo becoming more consistent. The pitching staff needs a little more consistency as well. This really isn't a lot to ask for as it takes just a couple minor tweaks. Add in that the American League West division should be weaker than it has been the past couple of seasons.

Been a Halo fan for a loooong time. It all comes own to starting pitcher.

Weaver is a stud. CJ? 50/50 with him.

After that...who we got? Garrett Richards? Jerome Williams?

Don't tell me the Angels will win 100 games with the likes of Joe Blanton or Jason Vargas?

Oakland has the pitching...always has. Ugly ball park...500 miles of foul territory...and a 3,500 fan base (not counting those whistle blowing-drum beating-flag waving characters in RF).

I think the Angels are going to be scary this year in the AL while batting. Their pitching staff however, not so much. I think Weaver and Wilson are a solid #1 and #2 but after that, they're screwed.

IMHO Pujols is the best hitter in the game. Other than his "off" year last year he is the most consistent hitter out there. Constantly driving in runs and getting base hits. I think his "off" year last year was better than like 80% of the league's best year. Hopefully it was because he was on a new team, in a different league, facing new pitchers.

I've always been a Hamilton fan but he can be very streaky. Hopefully being around Pujols can help him curb that a bit. But no doubt he'll be overall a great addition.

As for Trout, the Dodger fan in me says "meh, whatever" but the baseball fan in me says "Wow, kid looks amazing." We will see if he can live up to expectation this year with all eyes on him.

Now back to the Dodger thread...

People are already calling for Scioscia's head.

Some of us called for his head last year. We're just going through the same process again this season. Fail.

At some point, the manager has to be held accountable. Some will say they are signing guys that are too old, past their prime, etc, and will blame the GM, but the fact is they are underperforming, plain and simple. Even if guys are slightly past their prime, they are still very good. It's like every hitter who comes to the Angels magically loses their situational hitting ability. Same story every year. Terrible with RISP.

And on top of that, it just seems like Scioscia has totally gone away from his old style that was successful. They don't steal or hit and run nearly as much. They used to really pressure the opposing defense, and now it's just sit back and wait for the big hit, that usually never comes.

I personally think it's too early to call for Mike's head right now, but it's probably his last season if this doesn't turn around. Wouldn't mind seeing Butch get shown the door though. This staff should not be as bad as it is.

Rogie-Vachon

Scioscia's head should have been on the platter as soon as he tried that stupid squeeze play with Reggie Willits at third with Ericka Aybar bunting in the playoffs vs. Boston.

Yeah, the only thing harder to watch than 1 Angel game is the equivalent of 2. The players just look dejected. Their body language during the games is that of a defeated team. I love Scioscia and I appreciate all he's done for the franchise. I really wanted the team to turn this around for him, but I don't know how much longer this can go on before they let him go. They need some sort of a change now before this season gets away and they waste more of Arte's money.

Watch what happens to attendance if this team continues to miss the playoffs for a couple more years. Those long term deals are going to be harder to swallow when they aren't filling the seats. I feel like Arte knows this though. I truly don't believe he's allowing these signings just for the purpose of putting butts in the seats. They are signing guys that should be helping this team improve. The injuries this year aren't helping either. Weaver being out really hurts a rotation that already lacked depth, and Burnett and Madson were supposed to anchor the bullpen, and they've both been out. One of the biggest issues though is they are signing these big sluggers, and that doesn't really fit into the way Scioscia manages. He's more about speed and small ball, and I think he's gotten away from that having this big power lineup now.

In any event, I still think when this team is healthy, they are going to do some damage. Hamilton and Trout will come around, and Aybar is back now, so I think we will see them putting more runs on the board. Glad they started off May with a victory. Hopefully they can use a new month as a fresh start and get this turned around before it's too late. Oh, and I wouldn't mind seeing Butcher get the ax. Seems like pitchers come to the Angels and really underacheive. Especially the relievers. That needs to be addressed.

You make very good points, HockeyMariner! And this team keeps losing and losing. Your point about the way Scioscia manages is something I have noticed for years. He can't adjust to the team's weakness or change the system to get the most out of the players. Other words...when will they be getting rid of Scioscia?!?!? It's LONG over due now, and maybe the bleeding will stop a bit after he is gone

Angels go on a quiet 3 game win streak until getting 1 hit by the White Sox last night.

Honestly, at this point... the 3 game winning streak sucked. This team needs a shakeup and little winning streaks is only going to hide the problem for just a little longer. We need changes now.

Think about all the moves Arte Moreno has made since he bought the Angels.
With the exception of: Vladdy, Torrii, and probably CJ...he has approved terrible moves.
Bart Colon was the worst Cy Winner ever. Gary Mathews Jr? Vernon Wells? Arte paid out their contracts when they weren't even in Halo uniforms.
Albert Puljos and Josh Hamilton will set back the franchise for years to come. Arte's insistence on keeping Aybar, therefore losing stud Jean Segura in the Grenke trade has already backfired. As with trading Tyler Skaggs for Dan Haren. Let's not forget Mike Butcher's wonderful handling of Ervin Santana and Tyler Chatwood...who are now flourishing in KC and Colorado.
Watch the A's play. I mean, how in the HELL are they winning their second straight AL West crown?
Scioscia aka THE MAD GENIUS has no leadership skills. Players like Salmon, Anderson, Vladdy, Hunter are the only reasons he had good seasons. He ran Lackey out of town and his insistence on playing underachievers is depressing.

While I do agree the Angels need a new voice down in that dugout, I don't think Scioscia is the main problem with the Angels. The problem stems from the top (the owner) and works its way down to the field. Part of the problem is who is the leader of this franchise? Is it the owner? Is it Scioscia? Is it the GM? Is it Pujols and Hamilton? It sure doesn't feel like the person who should be leading this team (Trout) is leading this team.

I too feel now like Trout is just counting down the months till he can get out this mess and go lead the team that everyone in New York (and soon ESPN) will be saying he was destined to lead.

When is Trout ufa?
With the Fox money rolling in, there's no way Trout doesn't get paid. If he doesn't, I might have to adopt the Padres.

So Moreno is behind the Wells, Pujols, and Hamilton deals? Pretty obvious where the problem lies.

HAHAHAHA The A's aren't even making the playoffs this season. Nice try though.

Yet they still can't fill up their stadium even though they're winning. And they're going to remove tarpy for the playoffs? Good luck.

At this point, I will be rooting for the Tigers just so Torii Hunter can get his ring. Every other team can suck it.

Imagine how good the A's would be with Pujols and Hamilton in the lineup.

I don't think I have ever heard someone tell the Pittsburgh Pirates to suck it. I could have sworn at some point this season Torri said Detriot was better than Anaheim, or made some sort of back handed comment towards the Angels. People still love him down here, but I wonder if the feeling is mutual. Did Pujols sour his tenure that much?

So this will be a interesting last series. If the Angels get 3 out of 4 in Texas not only do they end the season with a somewhat respectable record, they also kill the Rangers season at their own home ballpark. Some good baseball left eventhough there is no postseason.

.500 so close I can taste it.

One can only hope. But I think it'll be Dipoto instead.

I did not go to any Angels games this year. Most years I go at least 2 games a month. I don't plan on going back anytime soon, until there are some major changes

Pitching wins. Angels are two pitchers away.

2013 Angels pitching MLB rankings according to era

Starters: Ranked 22'nd in the league in era
Relievers: Ranked 26'th in the league in era
Overall: Ranked 24'th in the league in era

I think more than two pitchers is needed. Also someone needs to call a Catholic priest who is a expert on exorcism for you know who.

That's why Moreno is hesitating to fire him. To pay him that much until 2018... we're screwed.

Unless he's a steroid connection for Pujols, deckchairs on the Titanic.
