I'm fine with dealing Ethier. I'd much rather see Crawford dealt but there isn't a team rich/dumb enough to take his contract, so we're stuck with him.

If it were possible I would like to see Ethier, Crawford, and Kemp traded. I agree no one would ever accept a Crawford deal without having us eat most of what is due to him, which is not possible, but at the same time I feel I would rather see Crawford on this team over Kemp and Ethier.

Who is this Kemp guy?

Exactly. Thing with Kemp is whenever someone tries to defend why he should still be here, their sentence usually begins with the words: "if he's healthy, or "potentially", or "he could be as good as he was back in..." Matt Kemp is 29 years old, the talk of what ifs and potential is over for Kemp. I've been done with the whole core group of position players that were suppose to lead us to a championship (Kemp, Ethier, Loney, Martin). Almost all those guys started with great potential and had some great seasons, but they all seemed to have eventually flamed out because they were more consumed with being a star then a good ball player. Notice how Martin and Loney have been given a second life the minute they moved out of a big city. I think the same thing is needed for Kemp and Ethier. It would not only be good for their careers, but it would also be good for us as we try to develop and mature Puig.

Hate to point it out but Yasiel Puig not only has more on-the-field maturity issues than all the four players you previously mentioned combined but he has a history of off-the-field prima donna antics dating back to his time in Chattanooga. Did you honestly forget about his speeding, reckless driving and driving without proof of insurance charges? To me, those actions alone set off entitlement alarms. There are plenty of red flags with Puig. I think it would be incredibly foolish to build a franchise around him until he proves there's substance behind his flash.

At this point nobody knows one way or the other.

I couldn't agree more about Puig. I don't think the Dodgers should build around him at this point, but at the same time they have to consider Puig will most likely be the future of this franchise. Yasiel is still very young and he's also still a stanger to a new land, and a new way of life. There's some issues he suffers from because things are done differently in Cuba, and there are some issues he suffers from because he's just a straight up self centered jerk. At Yasiel's age you can make the point that there is still a ton of room for him to improve, both with his on field and off field issues. Matt Kemp on the other hand is at his peak age, and he has been getting paid like he doesn't need to improve his focus or swing mechanics.

At this point I think the franchise belongs to Kershaw, Hanley, and Gonzalez. Those are the leaders, those are the franchise players now. Matt Kemp and Andre Ethier had been given this title ever since Manny Ramirez left, and all the both of them have to show for it is about 1 to 1 1/2 good seasons since that time.

If I had to choose from either one or the other on who I have to go with from here on out, Puig or Kemp? It's a no brainer, I'm going to go with Puig. I know people want to defend Matt Kemp because they invested so much time in likely him, and invested so much money in buying his merchandise and jerseys, but people have to see the reality of where Matt Kemp has been going for the last two seasons.

Like I tell my friends, if Matt Kemp was on the Angels you know you would be making fun of the Halos right now for having another overpaid hasbeen on their team.

100% behind all of this.

If ownership had faith in Mattingly they would've already offered him a multi-year extension. Clearly they are luke-warm on him, at best. I say let him go and promote Wallach with the interim tag. He won't be a lame duck like Mattingly would be and instead he'd be on an audition. If a better candidate comes along then give Wallach the option to reclaim his role as 3B coach or let him walk. And **** Colletti. The guy was given a blank check 17 months ago and the team he put together is just not good enough.

Is there disagreement about handling Yasiel Puig? - Los Angeles - Dodgers Report - ESPN Los Angeles (http://espn.go.com/blog/los-angeles/dodger-report/post/_/id/8163/is-there-disagreement-about-handling-yasiel-puig?ex_cid=espnapi_public)

“Most of the time, the small things don’t get on ESPN so they’re not highlights, nobody talks about them so they’re not important to guys,” Mattingly said Monday. “That’s where development comes in. Kids come up and they have to know how to play the game.”

One way for Puig to gain a little more seasoning and interact with different coaches and players would be to play winter ball, but Dodgers general manager Ned Colletti said that wasn’t going to happen.

Sounds like Colletti and Co. aren't too interested in bogging Puig down with the fundamentals. Interesting approach. I really hope it works out.

Agreed. We all wish the 2011 Kemp was playing. But the next year he missed 1/3 of the games, and this year more than half the games. Athletes whose bodies have previous injuries are much more prone to re-injure the same area as they age. Athletes health should be measured in a hybrid form of dog years. He'll be 30 next year. Ask yourself this: If he wasn't a Dodger who would you give up to get him, and how much would you pay him?

Kemp's value depends on the team and what the situation of that franchise is at the current moment. I think his name carries more value than his actual on field worth. For instance if the Yankees lose Cano this offseason you'll see them take a great interest in Kemp simply because they need a big name on that team for this season. You don't think Arte Moreno has had, and still continues to have wet dreams over the possibilty of marketing a already established So. Cal. star like Matt Kemp? The plus side with Kemp is that he plays in the NL, so there will be naturally be a bunch of AL teams like the Yanks or the Rangers who think Kemp will be MVP calibur simply by switching leagues and ballparks.

Which is why if we are going to trade Matt Kemp, trade him now while his name still has some weight. I think at this point we can unload Kemp on someone without having to put in 1 penny of what he has owed to him, and we can still pick up about three prospects with one or two of the prospects be + end guys. The key is to trade Kemp now though because if he has another season like he did this last season for the Dodgers, Matt will be the west coast A-Rod, or Teixeira

From all the people on that list, the only two I think we really need back is Wilson and Howell to make sure our bullpen stays strong. Problem is the both of them, especially Wilson, will probably be looking for team who wants to give them a closer job. I can't believe I'm saying this, but I would actually like to see Uribe come back. Not so much for what he will do on the field, but more for what he does to help build clubhouse chemistry. Everyone else I can live without. I actually wouldn't be surprised if we end up seeing Nolasco and Punto down the I-5 next season wearing Angels uniforms.

Marlins GM Dan Jennings says Giancarlo Stanton is not available on trade*market | SI Wire (http://tracking.si.com/2013/11/03/marlins-dan-jennings-giancarlo-stanton-not-available-trade/)

Stanton belongs in Dodger blue. I know it's heresy to talk about trading Puig but I absolutely would deal Puig if Stanton is coming back the other way. Dangling Puig would have to get Marlins management to think twice about moving Stanton. Stanton is only one year older than Puig and he already has 117 career HR. The guy's power is just ridiculous. The only concern with Stanton is his injury history but he's such a stud at the plate that I'd take that gamble every day of the week.

As much as I would love to see Stanton blasting balls into the pavillions, I think most scouts would agree they would rather have Puig's bag full of crazy over Stanton. Yes Giacarlos will hit the ball out of the park further and more frequently than Puig will, and he's a smarter ball player than Yasiel (that's not saying much), but even bad Puig can do about everything else far better than Stanton. Eventhough he is very young, I don't think you'll ever see Giacarlos bat over .300, or come anywhere near what Miggy was for the Marlins. I'm not sure if Stanton has the complete package to win a MVP award.

Puig's talent on the other hand is something you see once in a generation. Considering how young and inexperienced Yasiel is on and off the field, I think the gamble is well worth it if Puig shows serious signs that he wants to improve as a ballplayer and as a human being. Judging from what I have seen so far this offseason I think Yasiel is doing a job putting himself around mentor people who seem to be keeping him on the straight and narrow.

Just announced, Puig losses Rookie of the Year to the Marlins Jose Fernandez.

No offense to Fernandez, he is very worthy of the award, but the baseball sports writers are stupid. Matt Kemp lost out to that cheater Braun because Ryan's team made the playoffs, but Puig who sparked the Dodgers from worst to first losses out to a player on one of the worst teams in baseball? So the Angels are a bad enough team for Mike Trout's WAR stat not to matter, but players to 100 + loss teams WAR stat is totally valid for them to win awards? I swear. :frusty:splat:

So we've gone from the front runners in both Tanaka and Price to not likely to land either. So far our biggest moves are re-signing Wilson, signing Dan Haren and letting Belisario walk. Thankfully there's still 4 months until Spring Training.

Looks like Matt Kemp isn't going anywhere.

Matt Kemp will remain with Los Angeles Dodgers, agent says - ESPN Los Angeles (http://espn.go.com/los-angeles/mlb/story/_/id/10120176/matt-kemp-remain-los-angeles-dodgers-agent-says)

"They said they have no plans to move him -- bottom line," Stewart told ESPN.com.
Stewart said both he and Kemp considered that to be good news because the two-time All-Star doesn't want to leave Los Angeles.

"We're both happy about it," he said.

I think this is the right move. Trading him while his value is at its lowest AND being forced to retain some of his salary is terrible asset management. Let's give the guy one more shot at regaining his form. According to Stewart, Kemp wasn't able to do any lifting that involved his shoulder last year. Now he's back to his normal weight lifting routine and that's great news for his power numbers.

Colleti seems to mind that bit of news came out. Interesting he said he is willing to listen to any offers on all four outfielders.

I wonder if he has received any serious offers on Puig. So far from what I heard the offers for Kemp and Ethier were not to the Dodgers liking.

Los Angeles Dodger all-star Yasiel Puig was arrested around 9:30 a.m. Saturday on a reckless driving charge after he was caught speeding at 110 mph on Alligator Alley section of Interstate 75, according to Florida Highway Patrol spokesman Lt. Greg Bueno.

Has anybody here been to Florida? I have been numerous times, and let me tell you everybody there drives like Yasiel Puig. It's worst than Mexico, everybody drives a billion miles per hour in pouring rain, everyone blows red lights like it was a normal thing, every car has a dent in it, for a state that looks down on taxes it cost me $20 each time to go out because there's a toll booth every 2 miles, nobody there supports sports teams unless its a football team to a college nobody in Florida went to, the people are ugly and the state smells like pee all the time...wait, what were we talking about again?

Oh yeah, Puig must have really deserved it. I've driven up and down that state, and I have never once seen a highway patrol men. If you get pulled over by one in Florida then you must have been really driving like a big A-hole. :nightstick:

A few good or bad news to report today depending on how you view these things.

First order of business, Dodgers appear to have agreed to an extension with Don Mattingly through 2016.

Y! SPORTS (http://sports.yahoo.com/news/press-box-mattingly-dodgers-agree-003235153--spt.html)

Next is an interesting article by SB Nation on what to expect from Matt Kemp this season. Doesn't sound overly optimistic. One scout says about Kemp, "..OK this year, but you'll get the best of Kemp the following year as he's recovered completely from the ankle." Also baseball reference has Kemp currently comparable by age to Raul Mondasi, and Matty could possibly be dating Khole Kardashian.

Jon Morosi just tweeted:

Dave Stewart, agent for Matt Kemp, told me Kemp is swinging, running at 60%, and “getting close” to being himself after ankle surgery.

Stewart said he doesn’t think Kemp will be ready for 3/22 opener in Australia. “If the season opened April 1, I think Matt would be ready.”

Not quite as rosy as what Kasten said.

I got the full run down of this at fanfest, and personally I like the changes. I hate having to keep track of ticket stubs, and a lot of the times I have to end up selling games I can't go to on stubhub. It's just so much easier for me to have everything done electronically, and I don't mind because it sounds like they have their stuff together on this new system. I was told they are going to launch a new app that will connect everything to your account so that those ticket holders with the app and their smartphones will have their own automatic entrance gates, and own lines when purchasing stuff at the stadium.

By the way I like ticket stubs because I always keep my stubs from bobblehead nights and opening day. Still I think the positives of this new system out weight the negatives, but I say that because I have a smartphone and a printer. I saw the ticket stubs for this season though and thought they were pretty bland looking to be honest.

On a side note I've noticed the Dodgers have started stealing a lot of their fan services ideas from the Kings. Fanfest this year was a awful lot like Kings meet the players (at least the autograph portion of fanfest), and the Dodgers are launching a season ticket holder rewards program that is almost identical to the Kings reward program.

I think they need to give Matt as much time as he needs to heal.I am ok if he comes back in May and does great.I wonder if Joc Pederson gets a shot ?

Yup, Matty said himself on Staturday that he wasn't sure if he was going to be ready by opening day. I posted a link a couple of weeks ago about scouts who think Matty won't be a 100% this season, and I'm starting to believe they are more than likely right about Matt. At this point though I don't care if Matt doesn't perform at MVP level, I'll be content with a .290 avg/20 HR/90 rbi line. My major concern with Kemp is that he has regressed back to 2010 Kemp where he swings at very junk ball thrown at him, and is more concerned with off the field junk than on the field issues. Among other things I see historically as red flags for Matt.

I've got no faith in Haren staying healthy.

He's made 30 or more starts in all 9 seasons as a starter including leading the league in starts three times. I'm concerned about his effectiveness after two down years, but for durability it's hard to find a starting pitcher who's been more consistent the past decade. If he makes his usual 30 starts with an ERA anywhere from 3.50 to 4.00 I think he's done his job for LA.
