Ugh! I must've been drunk outta my mind, lol. I just noticed three posts about Penny Dreadful that I posted in this thread that I can't quite remember posting. :fpalm:

I am afraid of reading them, lol. A quick scan and I noticed I made a reference to Elizabeth Barrett Browning. Haha. Once I am making reference to writers I wrote about in school, I am drunker than usual. :manybeers:

Anyways...

Eddie Vedder Is Visiting ?Twin Peaks? And He?s Bringing A New Song With Him
http://uproxx.com/music/eddie-vedder-twin-peaks/

Anyway, it?s official: David Lynch prefers Pearl Jam to Soundgarden. I?m glad that decades old argument was finally settled.

Yeah, but Alice in Chains is better than both. evil:

I am still pensive about that upcoming Twin Peaks series and wondering if it could work given today's climate and not just on a nostalgic sakes level. Still, I am just one more Twin Peaks announcement from going FULL Twin Peaks, dusting off my DVDs, and going on a full binge. And I might finally read this which I have owned forever, haha.

And I still enjoy some Damn Good Coffee. :cafe:

I actually wasn't old enough to enjoy this the first time around. I got into all things David Lynch after watching Mullholand Dr. and thinking it was one of the greatest things that I have ever seen and going back and visiting anything Lynch I hadn't seen.

It's probably because I've never watched an episode of GoT (or Homeland, for that matter), but I read "Jon Snow" as "Jon Sable," and was surprised and excited for a moment.

Anyone catch Homeland? Nice start. Quinn's disabilities were nicely understated. You never go full ______. The rest of the story feels kinda familiar, hopefully they introduce some more twisty stuff in the next few episodes. I have no problem with it relying on Quinn though. It's potentially a good storyline.

Jim Carrey to Star in New Showtime Series Directed by Michel Gondry
http://collider.com/jim-carrey-michel-gondry-showtime-series/

In KIDDING, Carrey plays Jeff, aka Mr. Pickles, an icon of children’s television, a beacon of kindness and wisdom to America’s impressionable young minds and the parents who grew up with him – who also anchors a multimillion dollar branding empire. But when this beloved personality’s family – wife, two sons, sister and father – begins to implode, Jeff finds no fairy tale or fable or puppet will guide him through this crisis, which advances faster than his means to cope. The result: a kind man in a cruel world faces a slow leak of sanity as hilarious as it is heartbreaking.

Sounds a little Death to Smoochy, which is a delightfully fd up movie, btw.

Anyone that likes XTC , there is an amazing documentary on them on Showtime /On Demand right now.

Great footage I've never seen .

Yeah Andy Partridge is still a cranky curmudgeon ( especially in the beginning) but eventually he settles into telling the story of himself and the band.

They interview the main players , Colin M , Dave G , and even Terry C .

They don't say a lot about what's gone on in the last 20 years but go deep in the major label days .

It's 75 min long but could've gone for 4 hours for me .

Nice to see XTC get some notice since they've been kinda ignored in the ol reunion , accolades for artists from the 70s/80s train .

Halo TV show finally greenlit by Showtime: 'Our most ambitious series ever' (http://ew.com/tv/2018/06/28/halo-tv-series-showtime/)

https://imagesvc.timeincapp.com/v3/mm/image?url=https%3A%2F%2Fewedit.files.wordpress.com %2F2018%2F06%2Fhalo.jpg%3Fw%3D2000&w=800&q=85

A scripted TV drama series based on Microsoft’s massive Halo video game franchise for Xbox is finally really happening.

After being mired in development purgatory for five years, Showtime has announced a project greenlight for 10 episodes — plus hired a showunner and a director.

We’re told Halo (which is the show’s working title for now) will dramatize “an epic 26th-century conflict between humanity and an alien threat known as the Covenant … Halo will weave deeply drawn personal stories with action, adventure and a richly imagined vision of the future.”

Kyle Killen (Awake) will serve as executive producer, writer and showrunner, while Rupert Wyatt (Rise of the Planet of the Apes) will direct multiple episodes and also executive produce.

Showtime Orders ‘Penny Dreadful’ Follow Up ‘City of Angels’ (https://variety.com/2018/tv/news/penny-dreadful-city-of-angels-showtime-1203017159/)

Showtime has ordered a new installment of the drama series “Penny Dreadful,” the premium cabler announced Thursday.

“Penny Dreadful: City of Angels” is set in 1938 Los Angeles, a time and place deeply infused with Mexican-American folklore and social tension. Rooted in the conflict between characters connected to the deity Santa Muerte and others allied with the Devil, the new series will explore a mix of the supernatural and the reality of the time period.

I don't how closely it's going to be tied. Or how it might work. It's not like we're going from Victorian England to WW1 era England, but Los Angeles? What?

Part of me thinks this could be better if it was just its own thing by the makers of Penny Dreadful, so there might be some thematic similarities, but they have the series stand on its own.

And yeah, haha, I am still pissed off at that Penny Dreadful ending. Bah!

And Paul Dano, who I normally do not connect with, is the glue that holds it all together. David Morse, seriously...that was stacking the deck. Check this out. It's really good tv.

This new series takes place amid the social and political tensions of Los Angeles in 1938, while being heavily steeped in Mexican-American folklore. Daniel Zovatto (HBO’s Here & Now) plays Detective Tiago Vega, whose investigation of a grisly murder that sets him on an epic journey as the city’s first freeways are being built, radio evangelism is on the rise, and the Third Reich commits dangerous acts of espionage. Tiago and his family soon start “grappling with powerful forces that threaten to tear them apart.”

Penny Dreadful first look: Natalie Dormer descends upon the City of Angels (https://ew.com/tv/2019/12/18/penny-dredful-city-of-angels-first-look-natalie-dormer/)

Dormer portrays Magda, a shape-shifting demon and "agent of chaos" in 1930s Los Angeles.

...

At its core, City of Angels (premiering on Showtime in 2020) is about the “demonization of the other,” says Game of Thrones vet Natalie Dormer. The description is fitting, considering she stars as a literal demon named Magda. For Logan, she is the aspect of the show that “makes it a Penny Dreadful.”

Dormer describes her shape-shifting hell queen as a “delicious, multi*dimensional thrill,” an “agent of chaos” who can “sow the seeds of disorder.” In the first season, we’ll meet three of Magda’s manifestations as humans, says the actress. “The audience will discover who those identities are as they continue to watch the show.”

Yes, Mandy Patinkin is such a great actor. To watch his seething rage barely contained by his focus, and Claire Danes facial gymnastics. ‘Penny Dreadful: City of Angels’ Review: Deep as the L.A. River

There was enough in the premiere to keep me engaged, but it didn't grab me like the original series. I think the atmosphere in Victorian London and the characters slowly introduced grabbed me a lot more than the LA scene. And the entire plot line of who's pulling who's strings were laid out pretty fast. A bit Hunters meets dia de los muertos-ish. Nevertheless, Magda put in some good performances as different characters, and Nathan Lane 4 life.

Very different series from the original.
