I live/born in Southern California. I'm a sports fan. Don't bother me about bandwagon jumping or what ever LOL

Sports is about entertainment and if you are lucky enough, Civic pride.

I understand some basic rules about hockey but not its nuances. I watched the playoff games I could because I don't have NBSsports and listened to internet radio and one free live stream.

I went two games as a kid and I'm pretty sure this was one of them

1977 Stanley Cup Quarterfinals (Best of Seven)
Game 3 April 15, 1977: Boston 7, Kings 6 Series: 0-3
LOS ANGELES - The Boston Bruins scored four goals in the third period to defeat the Los Angeles Kings 7-6 and take a commanding 3-0 advantage in the Stanley Cup quarterfinals.

?We had them 5-3 in the second period and we let them score four goals,? Kings captain Mike Murphy told the Associated Press in 1977. ?It was a complete mental letdown on everyone?s part. If we hadn?t let down, they wouldn?t have won. It?s no one individual?s fault. It?s 20 guys.?

The Kings built leads of 3-1 and 5-3 throughout the game, but the Bruins battled back from both of them.

With the game tied 1-1, the Kings took a 3-1 lead in the first period on goals by defenseman Bob Murdoch and forward Butch Goring.

The Bruins would tie the score at 3-3 in the second period on goals by Terry O?Reilly and Donald Marcotte, before the Kings would retake the lead in the same period with goals by Gary Sargent and Tommy Williams.

In the third period, the Bruins outshot the Kings 15-5 en route to taking a 6-5 lead. While Kings forward Marcel Dionne gave the fans some hope with a game-tying goal with 1:53 remaining in the game, Boston?s Stan Jonathan scored the game-winner with 13 seconds left to carry the Bruins to victory.

?I really didn?t know how much time was left in the game,? Jonathan told the Associated Press. ?I just shot, and it hit goalie Rogie Vachon in the shoulder and just rolled over his shoulder

as great as the playoff run was it probably was more of a perfect storm for one reason. They played 21 games but they didn't have to leave the State for 14 games which made life just a little easier for them.

and I don't see anyone commenting that it seems appropriate that for a hockey team in LA a guy named Martinez scored the winning goal ! :)

Welcome Davethehammer! You just need to make enough posts to be able to get avatars and other toys like starting threads. In the meantime have fun in the home ice thread and I recommend checking out the other threads for the other random topics that come up, particularly the other sports threads in your case.

This is my first post :D !

I'm similar to you davethehammer in the sense that I'm generally a sports fan but I don't understand the nuances. I really started getting into hockey this past season because my chiropractor works with a lot of the Kings' players. I started looking up rules etc. and I think I'll enjoy next season even more.

And by the way, that's awesome that you found the game you went to as a kid! Did you keep the tickets, or just good memory?
