Didn't see one started yet soooooooo, why not?

Starting off with Coachella releasing their lineup. Feels light, but some good stuff mixed in there. AC/DC and Steely Dan? Sweetness.

good lord. Has rock music been so diminished that Motorhead(last year) and AC/DC are considered 'alternative'? I feel so old, I know very few of these bands. I mean, never even heard of. AND I SPOTIFY!!!!!!!! Best name of the bunch...Chicano Batman. That band HAS to be awesome. Couple good festival bands in Ghost(again...they must've impressed last year), and Reverend Horton Heat. And Royal Blood is kinda cool White Stripes/Black Keys stuff. This **** is for you youngins though. Three days in the desert, no thank you sister.

If that show was not on the weekend, I'd be skipping it. Kamelot plays the same songs every time and their last few albums aren't my favorites. Someone likes them, because the ticket prices have been going up. Dragonforce I'm tempted to just catch the last song, since Through The Fire And Flames is the best version of their one song. I'd love to see Evergrey again, which is why I'm trying to get to that far away festival they are playing at twice.

Good news maybe, as far as FNM goes...their Facebook page has said repeatedly these will not be the only dates. Now that could pertain to the entire US just as easily as the specific cities that were announced in, what I assume to be, the initial leg of the tour. But yeah, if Cali is going to one of the stops on that leg, I am assuming again, that they will circle back around at some point. I will keep you apprised via this page if I hear anything more specific.

Well, that was an experience. The El Cid is a groovy little place. Not quite a restaurant, not quite a club. But swell looking with a great sound system and wonderfully helpful staff. Good strong margs too. No Small Children were decent. Going from Donnas/Runaways one moment then poppy Cranberries type stuff the next. Interesting. GAYc/DC, wow...that was less fabulous than I expected. I woulda thought a flamboyantly gay AC/DC cover band would have been a lot more fun. Technically sound, but ironically, not a lot of bottom. Add in a singer that would have been more comfy in a cruise ship lounge cover band and...PASS. Mac Sabbath were all you'd expect. Amazingly proficient musicians, especially considering the disadvantages of wearing costumes that looked like they would make the mere act of walking difficult. The frontman/singer adds to the experience. More charisma than the real Ronald McDonald, and some fun pun-based stage banter. If you get a chance...go see.

Bad selection on the Rush pre-sale today. Hoping for something better during the regular sale tomorrow. Or I'll just wait to see what gets released closer to show time.

I went ahead and picked up a ticket to the latest announced U2 show at the Forum. I've never been a big fan, but I've never seen them live and want to cross them off the list. I got GA floor for face, so I'll take it considering the prices for some of the package seats.

Also in for Ride at the Fox Theater. Looking forward to seeing them twice now in the same week.

I would strongly consider the scorpions again (didnt' they do a farewell tour not too long ago), but I imagine it will be pricey and I just spent most of my funds on AC/DC tickets.

It is the real Queensryche, the one without the vest wearing d-bag who can't sing anymore. They are playing at the imitation blues shack at the tragic kingdom pretty soon, so if you are more interested in them, it is cheaper ($40 vs. Scorps starting at $73). I am going to both, although I probably would have just done the Scorps/Ryche show if I had known.

I almost pulled the trigger on the Sweden Rock festival but the airfare took a jump so now I have to see if it wants to go back down.

Yeah, one reason I am paying the $73 is because I haven't seen them in about the same time. It was at the Greek Theater, with Deep Purple and Ronnie James, and setlist.fm tells me 2002. The Scorpions have so many good songs it is ridiculous, and Klaus still sounds good. I am so used to paying $25 to stand ten feet from the stage to see bands I love that sell out arenas in Euro and play small clubs for $25 in the US.

I've been waiting two years or so to see the new Queensryche and now I am ending up seeing them three times this year. Hopefully they will mix the setlist up a little.

Doro next weekend.

I saw the new and improved Queensr?che on Friday. When it was announced that they were going to be the openers for the Scorpions in the fall, I almost was going to try to sell my ticket to this show, since I didn't need to see them three times (I am also seeing them in the summer), or maybe even just skip the show. That would have been a mistake, because Queensr?che was frickin' amazing. The new singer can drop a near-perfect piercing "Queen of the Reiiiiiiiiich", but even more impressive is that the three long-time members of the band sounded completely rejuvenated. Every single song was deeply dynamic and the set list itself was pretty much perfect, taking 2-4 songs from every album up to Empire. Walk In The Shadows, The Needle Lies, The Lady Wore Black, and closing with Take Hold Of The Flame. So glad I went, because I doubt they will get 17 songs at the other shows where they are not headlining. I also won't be taking it in two feet away from the stage like I was on Friday.

he just ignored it and the drunk guy's friends turned and shooshed him, lol.

i could totally see tim barry do that. this time, he went down into the crowd, but only to play a song amongst them and have people sing along with him.

no, beau beau was not there.

i did hang out after the show with some friends because one of them had drunkenly tipped a bartender $5 for a sharpie so i felt obliged to get tim to sign my record cover. got a pic with him, too. nice guy.

that FNM show was righteous. so glad i got to go. i will say though, it was the most "sold out" i've ever seen that venue. i wonder if their capacity for that room was 1000 but they sold 300 extra because that's how much their small room would fit and so they crammed 1300 people in a 1000 capacity room just because they could at $50+/ticket. i could barely move. i think the a-hole quotient was high, too. i could only find a spot on the steps and stayed on the lowest one on the very edge, but some angry hippie looking guy was at the top of the steps in the middle and kept throwing people down if they even dared want to use the steps to get down to the lower level so each time, it'd toss me forward into the people in front of me. it only stopped when some guy i was next to called him out on his attitude problem. i've gone to tons of punk shows over the years and never encountered this level of douchiness. i'm just glad he got called out and stopped before FNM broke into the old material. (the first half of the set was all new stuff, and the last half was old stuff).

Thought the Wednesday night Wiltern show was really good...FNM just is a terrific live act, but the setlist was puzzling. I get that they have a new album coming out, but it's not out yet. So to play a show primarily comprised of songs most have not heard yet, and then getting impatient for the lack of 'participation' was odd. For every From out of Nowhere, which got the crowd moving, there was one or two new songs that sort of killed momentum. It was almost as if they were defying the crowd to enjoy themselves. Don't get me wrong, the new songs sound great...very much in the vein of previous work. But it seemed a miscalculation. Great musicianship and enthusiasm won the day...but it just seemed odd. Patton is just a born entertainer, and it was fascinating to watch him work the voice effect gizmo he had on a music stand on stage. Overall, great show...just a little unusual. Typical FNM.

And it was singularly the MOST diverse crowd I have ever seen. Old folks, hippies, hipsters, oddballs...a lot of everything.

oh man, i'm actually kind of jealous (to a lot jealous) of the show you went to because they played a lot of my favorites at that one. i would've loved to have heard from out of nowhere and easy. i can understand them playing a lot of the new songs since they are touring behind sol invictus, but ya... album's not even out yet. i think they made adjustments or maybe since they were only doing one night in OC, they frontloaded the set with new songs and then ended the show with a lot of momentum with the older songs. i still really enjoyed it though and am so glad i went.
this is what we got:
http://www.setlist.fm/setlist/faith-no-more/2015/the-observatory-santa-ana-ca-53c8db79.html

and ya, there was a lot of variety at the show. some dads brought their kids. one older dude had his 12-ish year old with him and when FNM started playing We Care A Lot, the dad got so pumped, turned around and screamed "YEAH!" and high-fived his kid who looked equally stoked. how cute, haha.

lots of straight up trashed people, too. some guy needed help exiting the lower level... like he couldn't even stand on his own two feet. i'm not judging, but i don't really understand waiting all this time to see a band that hasn't really toured in 18 yrs just to get so trashed you likely won't remember it later.

Very interesting setlist. Would have killed for We care a Lot and/or The Bee Gees cover(which I love). Yeah, it certainly seems like they organized the setlist differently. Don't know if that's better or not. I have seen them a LOT and it's never been a bad show...I just wish I had had a chance to familiarize myself with the new material before seeing it live.

i read about 2 weeks ago that it had leaked. i haven't sought the leak out though because i already ordered it and prefer to wait. i do have the first two single 7"s so i'm familiar with those...
and ya, i was pretty happy with the set. i DO like the way it was organized. i would've loved to hear some other old songs, but they can only squeeze so much into a 1 hr 20 min set.

Sorry to say (actually, no I'm not), but Bette Midler was awesome! So many hits, and for her age her voice sounds great. Hilarious zingers coming all night (amongst it all took shots at the kardashians, tom brady, the lakers, and whether her fans can still drive at night). She's still as dirty as ever (jokes about anal, d*** picks, etc), and put on a good show.

Best of all, she made my millenium by performing I Put A Spell On you from Hocus Pocus!

Yesterday I saw Slash play in an amusement park in Stockholm. Kennedy sounds 100 times better than Axl does now (they did 6 GNR songs), and also you have Slash on guitar, as good if not better than ever, so Axl's band, whatever they call it, is officially redundant.

Also, I saw a headliner level concert at an amusement park in Sweden.

And I rode their Ninja and Viper equivalents.

Was thinking the exact same thing.

U2 were great tonight. My first time seeing them, which is a little strange since I've had plenty of opportunities. I've always like their music fine, it's just never floored me. Seeing them live though changes a lot. Their vision for the live show, the technology and ultimately The Edge's steamrolling riffs finally won me over. Awesome. And so good to be back at the Forum again. That place is the premiere large, indoor concert venue in So CA at the moment.

that is most definitely a fantastic line-up. unfortunately, i'm too much of an old curmedgeon to put up with any kind of fest so i'm passing. i just hope either jimmy eat world or, most of all, thrice will do a smaller headlining show in the area as well. even if i just saw both of them fairly recently, seeing them again is like my life blood, hahaha. another deterrent is that it's at that venue in san bernardino. gross. i passed up the opportunity to see a thrice/thursday show (2 of my most fave bands) just because it was at that venue all the way in BFE. come to OC or LA, or at the worst, pomona, please, geeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeez.

it's just so... out of the way. no doubt did a show there once and a ton of people missed it because something happened on the freeway and there was either massive traffic or it was shut down. the band had to apologize for the unforeseen circumstances. at least with the venues i go to, there are always decent alternate routes, haha.

I think the last time I was there was when it was glen helen/blockbuster. I just remember being so far out in the middle of nowhere. And I remember afterwards it took like 2 hours just to get out of the parking lot, and yes there was a crap ton of dust everywhere. Almost word for word!

HAHAHAHAHA, that's awesome and hilarious. well, i guess the dust thing wasn't a one time thing. double gross.

and i totally hate when it takes forever to leave the lot. an ex-bf dragged me to a dave matthews concert in the late 90s and it took over an hour to leave irvine meadows amphitheatre. i am sure it would've taken longer but i took the initiative to drive like an a-hole and zigzag out of there. i feel bad about it, but damnit, i should not have been put in that position!

exactly why i prefer smaller shows... you're not trying to leave at the same time as tens of thousands of people............

It's a fairly new venue for bands. I'll see what I can find out for ya. Was wondering the same thing about the Regent where Chelsea Wolfe is playing soon. I've never been there but, at least from early reviews I could find, things weren't super positive. But then I'd see Chelsea Wolfe in a dive bar if I had to.

Aerosmith were excellent last night. Toys in the Attic was especially driving. And Rag Doll hit home. Surreal moment afterwards. I was walking down the street to my car and looked up as a bus was coming out of one of the venue gates. Standing at the front next to the driver was Joe Perry shirtless and screaming something like "hell yea!" and pointing at me and the other fans walking beside me. I shouted back "I love you guys!" Just a weird, funny moment. Love the SB Bowl.

Soul Asylum was awesome at the house of blues last night!

Meat Puppets opened - I am not familiar enough them aside from Backwater, and I liked the Sloop John B cover they did. A bit garage-rock, a big psychedelic at times, pretty good. Also funny to see Jack Black get on stage and "manuever" around for a song or two.

Soul Asylum was fantastic. Great setlist, dude sounds like he did when grave dancers union came out, I loved it. Setlist included in no particular order: Runaway Train, Misery, Somebody to Shove, Black Gold, Just Like Anyone, The Game, Eyes of a Child, Shut Down, Without a Trace, Gravity, and a few other newbies. Just about every song I wanted to hear was played.

Also, freaking LOUD. First show I haven't worn earplugs at in awhile, and now I supremely remember why I started wearing them. Still can't hear out of my left ear yet. Good times!

Went to the Ataris at the roxy last night. So fun!

They played their Blue skies, Broken hearts album in full. Guilty pleasure or not, this album was on almost a weekly to daily playlist through my whole college life. I was happy to hear some old songs played. Played whole album in no straight order, then came back and closed with a misfits Skulls cover, boys of summer, and in this diary.

good times. Two shows in one week, this old 35 year old body needs some rest.

Highlight - I love that Kris Roe still sells all their merch himself. I walked over and asked if I could buy him a drink. After hearing he didn't drink anymore due to back pain medicine and the fact he drives their van everywhere, I then asked if I could buy him a soda or vitamin water. Laughed and he gave me a signed pick and a few buttons as a thanks. I felt good so I bought my 2 year old a shirt. Smallest he had was men's XL, so I suppose I'll have to keep it or 3 or 4 years and let him grow into it..

Saw Crue and Alice in Eugene, OR a couple of nights ago. Very, very good. Alice was in perfect form and has a great group of guitarists with him. Vince's voice is not what it once was so the music was incredibly loud but Mick proved once again he is still one of the best guitarists in rock music and Tommy was fun to watch on the "Crucifyer." LOL but we enjoyed the show and I would suggest to any fan.

Thought about this but I think it starts at like 3:00, and I couldn't take off work, even if I want to see Masked Intruder. Plus it's the palladium.

I was really hoping in the back corner of my dreams that they'd get Avail to reunite and/or Frenzal Rhomb to come in for these shows, in which case I would be there.

That show was awesome! A Place To Bury Strangers were incredible too. I went Wednesday night as well so I knew where to stand for when they came out and did their last song from the center of the floor. Both nights were incredible for both bands. The Mary Chain doing a 'hits' set into all of Psychocandy was sublime. And I thought Jim sounded great.

yes, that is a NOFX themed beer called stickin in my IPA. champion beer brews it (as well as an against me! themed beer called black me stout) and they brought a few kegs to some of the fat wreck shows elsewhere.

I only saw the IPA there. The only unfortunate thing was that they did not let you have the can along with it.

Face to Face was a nice addition. They didn't play too many songs, but they sounded great, which seemed a bit of a feat yesterday, due, probably, to the sound system.

IIRC, entire line-up yesterday was:

Toy Guitar
The Pears
Masked Intruder <-- glad I was there early to catch this band for a second time
The Flatliners
Swingin' Utters
Strung Out
Lagwagon
Face to Face
NOFX

First band went on at 3:30, and the changeovers were fairly fast. The day seemed to go by very quickly. NOFX was not the highlight of the show, but it was cool to hear them do The Death of John Smith and Quart in Session.

Lagwagon announced they will be doing back-to-back nights at The Troubadour, performing all of Trashed one night and all of Hoss the next night.

Ed Force One then proceeds into South America for concerts in ARGENTINA, CHILE and a number of shows in BRAZIL before flying back to the USA at the end of March for ten more cities covering the USA and, of course, CANADA in the first two weeks of April.

Millencolin at the roxy last week was so much fun. I love the size of that place.

They played a good mix of a few songs from just about every album old and new (except Machine 15 which is fine). Nikola remarked he thought the last time they played the roxy was in 1998, and I'm pretty sure I was there for it. Damn.

I also now know that "friday night" translates in swedish to "circle pit".

Ya, got that too. Sucks. Here's a follow up statement from the band:

Hey
America has always been way beyond kind to us and we were really looking forward to this up and coming tour but sometimes the plans of 5 people don?t come together as you want them to. If you know us you know that we are a busy bunch and Refused is far from the only thing that we are working on in this hectic life. In between families and other jobs and projects(Kris is right now premiering his version of Rigolleto at Norrlandsoperan and Dennis just finished a week of touring with INVSN) it is sometimes hard to get the schedule to work as you want it to. A very unexpected personal scheduling conflict arose that we been trying hard to maneuver around but to no luck. For that we are very very sorry. We didn?t want to pull these dates but sometimes you are a stuck in between a rock and hard place. We hope that we can return and make it up for you sooner then later. Thanks for caring and once again we are really sorry.

Hopefully we will see you all soon!!
Until then
Stay wild!
Love

Went to Scorpions/Queensryche at the Forum on Saturday and it may have actually been worth missing Frozen Fury for.

It was my first show at the new Forum and the sound was just amazing. The place looked great, although I was unable to check if the throths had been eliminated. The parking cost was obscene and almost makes me want to root for the Raiders to come to town so there is more parking to choose from.

After wanting to see the new Queensryche for a few years, I finally got to see them three times this year, and this time was the best of the three. Being back on a huge stage in America seems to give them extra inspiration and La Torre really does sound like 20-years-ago-Geoff. Good setlist - plenty of Mindcrime and Empire, a new song, a very old song.

I hadn't seen the Scorpions in over 10 years and it was ridiculous how good they sounded, especially Klaus, who is almost 70. Their setlist was a great mix, with plenty of hits, a medley of really old stuff, and an extended Coast To Coast jam where even Klaus grabbed a guitar to take part. The Scorpions worked three new songs in that I was almost entirely unfamiliar with and even those sounded great. I ordered the album when I got home (for $10 less than they were selling it at the Forum). They had a huge video backdrop with a different display for each song. The band seemed to really be enjoying themselves and were running around like they were 1/3 their ages.

Most notably, Rudolf Schenker has an acoustic Flying V. AN ACOUSTIC FLYING V.

Teragram Ballroom...nice joint. Great sound, a/c was game for most of the show, and the place in general had a nice fancy/polished rock and roll vibe. Definitely more Silverlake/John Varvatos pseudo old school than real honest to god dive bar, or maybe that was the crowd.
The Bad: next to the Mayfair hotel, squeezed in amongst the multi-purpose nuevo giant new additions to the neighborhood. Kinda wonderfully out of place...as nice as that is, the street parking night nazis were sniffing about the neighborhood, so the best/only option was the $20 only-lot-on-the-block parking.

The show? Watch the video. Reverend Jesse 'the Devil' Hughes is a madman. Amazing frontman...and a good singer too. Who knew Josh Homme was such a badass. Looked like a big man in a little set as far as the drums go, but he was a beast. Like Ringo on steroids as far as keeping it tight. And EODM demands a tight beat.
Love this band, there ain't nothing wrong with doing ONE THING if you do it RIGHT. Ask Motorhead, AC/DC, or classic Coke.

Strictly Nightmare...and then some extras at the end, he did the Oogie Boogie song, the 3 mischief kids song, and then Dead Man's Party. He was having so much fun, and I think that's why there will never be an Oingo Boingo reunion. It's one thing to trot it out occasionally, but to commit to a proper reunion, when, let's be honest, the man need never work again...well, I can't think he would be too keen. It's also a hearing thing , I believe his hearing/tinnitus has been an issue for many years ,
I remember they had a pretty loud stage back in the day and those horns
sounded great (which means ****ing LOUD) so in the way athletes lose there legs muso's especially rock dudes lose their hearing as they get older.

Why screw up your hearing more when you can stay home and cash checks for a living along with generating some more cash by doing another similar sounding thing for another film or TV project.

Ice-T Lived Through Every Performer’s Worst Nightmare At Lollapalooza

While explaining how he prepares for going on the road and touring, the rapper and actor explained to Meyers why he never eats before a show.

“I had a bad incident one time. I was on Lollapalooza back in the day and this lady served us gumbo during lunch and I went on stage, in front of like 20,000 people, with full-blown diarrhea,” he said. “Imagine standing on stage holding your buttcheeks and you’re trying to tell people to ‘go crazy.’ When the show was over, one fart would have been disaster.”

Promoter Miguel ?ngel Flores Sentenced To Four Years In Prison After Overselling A Show By 6,000 Tickets
http://uproxx.com/music/promoter-sentenced-madrid-steve-aoki-stampede/

A Spanish concert promoter was sentenced to four years in prison due to his role in a deadly stampede at a 2012 Steve Aoki concert. Miguel ?ngel Flores received the maximum penalty for five counts of manslaughter by gross negligence and 29 counts of injury by gross negligence after five people lost their lives at a Halloween show that his company put on.

According to El Mundo, Flores oversold the Madrid Arena by more than 6,000 tickets and the event didn’t have proper safety measures in place — such as fire exits and space between the entrance doors and the crowd. 18-year-old Roc?o O?a, Cristina Arce, and Katia Esteban, 17-year-old Bel?n Langdon and 20-year-old Maria Teresa Alonso were killed when a flare gun went off in the crowd, causing the attendees to rush.

Flores maintained throughout the case that he was attempting to make as much money as possible while still throwing a safe show. However, the Provincial Court of Madrid disagreed and found him guilty of manslaughter along with 7 others defendants. An additional 7 defendants were absolved of any guilt.
