I guess a 2015 thread was never started for MLS. If I missed it, somehow, please merge. I appended the LA Galaxy to the thread, because I'm unabashedly biased. Also, because this first post is not about the MLS season.

Just in case you missed it, here's the video from Robbie Keane's first-half equalizer 11 June against Club America. This, BTW, was a really fun friendly match to attend. Fully 80?90% of the stands were packed with Club America fans, and it was a competitive match. I'll bet a lot of Galaxy STH sold their seats at a premium to Club America fans earlier in the season and then were regretting it this week when it was announced that Steven Gerrard would play the first half. Okay, back to Keane's goal. Amazing!

From our seats, the magnitude of this goal was not immediately apparent. We were looking through some of the trailing players, and the angle made it unclear whether the defender got a touch or not. However, the replay was up quickly on YouTube, and at halftime I was able to marvel at that unbelievable first touch. This one gets tucked away in a special spot in my StubHub/Home Depot Center memory along with some plays by Beckham, Donovan and Henry.

Giovani Dos Santos is now official.

(I threw up in my mouth a little when I first heard it)

I sold my seat for the Club America match and am glad I did after hearing the section getting pelted with beers (and other warm liquids) when the game ended.

I'll be there for the match against NYCFC.

Man, the number of name players looking to be in that matchup, if the teams can hold their forms....

I'll be attending the FC Barcelona game with the family. Should be fun.

Interview with Gerrard regarding tonight's match against the Earthquakes. (Ha! I almost reflexively typed "Sharks")

Steven Gerrard on MLS Debut: "hopefully I can get off to a winning start" | PREVIEW (http://www.lagalaxy.com/post/2015/07/16/steven-gerrard-mls-debut-hopefully-i-can-get-winning-start-preview?autoplay=true)

I'll be at that game too. Hopefully gonna try to catch one of the midweek Champions League games coming up in a couple weeks. (I'm a total mark for the CCL)

I hope Dos Santos isn't hurt too badly (he went off at halftime of the Mexico/Trinidad game with an apparent hamstring injury). Speaking of which, that Mexico/Trinidad game was INSANE

Well, this is bad news.

LA Galaxy Insider has learned that the LA Galaxy and Jaime Penedo mutually have agreed to part ways | INSIDER (http://www.lagalaxy.com/post/2015/07/29/la-galaxy-insider-has-learned-la-galaxy-and-jaime-penedo-mutually-have-agreed-part)

I can't understand that one, unless he just absolutely refused to play with the new Mexican after the gold cup!

So Gerrard and Keane were held out of the all star game with "injuries". I'm hoping that was just "we don't want to get hurt in this meaningless game" injuries...

Penedo explains Galaxy departure (http://www.goal.com/en-us/news/1110/major-league-soccer/2015/07/29/14007802/penedo-explains-galaxy-departure)

Jaime Penedo has explained his abrupt departure from the LA Galaxy, citing discontent with his contract situation.

this contract does not guarantee and doesn't meet all the conditions that can give me stability, for my family and as a soccer player. The contract does not have a disposition for things to change, so it's better to leave now, with my head up.

such as......

I'm all for Penedo getting financial security for him and his family, but this whole situation makes him look bad. he came in at 75k and was making 175k this year that is quite an improvement in salary and to leave in the middle of your contract with no other offer on the table is asinine he left guaranteed money till December and a chance to win another title and improve his chances at better offers does not make sense to me just to make a point.

good luck to him but as a Galaxy fan he can go **** himself, while he plays in some south american country earning half of what he got here.

Now that we've seen a few games with Gio, boy he looks like a great fit. He's already showing chemistry with Keane and Gerrard. The Galaxy are likely to score a ton of goals down the stretch, and if their goalkeeping and backline hold up, they are going to be a huge favorite to win another Cup.

So far so good. The two CCL teams they've played were terrible. That 2 on nobody in which Gio passed off to Keane was very unselfish and a good teammate move.

But a good away win in Dallas. Sunday should be a fun test.

I don't know about the Galaxy but the Women's National team is struggling up 6-1 against Costa Rica second half in a down-pour on ESPN.

Ok, if the Kings can win the Cup just one more time this year, they'll finally be able to go to the White House solo.

Epic collapse by the Galaxy over the last month. This was one of the most incredibly disappointing finishes, if not the most, for any team for which I've ever rooted.

I agree 100%. This team should have rolled over the league, and instead it collapsed into mediocrity. Didn't help that their keeper quit on them in the middle of the season either.

I blame Penedo for the whole thing.

sort of.

I mean really the defense fell apart. I also think Gerrard had a real tough time adapting. It happened in the first half-season beckham played in too. Often at times I also felt like Juninho and Gerrard were almost playing the same role and didn't know how to move apart. But man with Keane, Dos Santos, Gerrard, Lletget and Juninho that was an epic collapse.

I shudder every time the Galaxy pick up a new player, and it's not a central defender. Of course, I've been doing that for a while, and they've collected a couple of MLS Cups since then, but it is more apparent than ever this year that they are lacking at the back.

Sad to see Omar go. I hope this works out well for him. I really wonder what Galaxy are going to do at CB now.

Gonzalez was terrible last season and making too much money. Had to go for salary cap reasons. Losing Juninho is really going to hurt though. Not sure why they sold him unless he wanted to go and thought Mexico was a step up.

IIRC, Magee asked to be traded. He needed to be home in Chicago at the time. Plus, Rogers has been a great addition, and now we have both!!!

I don't remember hearing anything about that but MLS news isn't as readily available. The Galaxy were going after a bigger name in Rogers who didn't want to play for Chicago and Magee was from the area so he accepted a trade there. Terrible decision at the time but it ended up working out due to Rogers position change actually working.

In reply to Modibo:

There was some conversation with the league but the agreement was made by the two clubs. It helped that Magee was receptive and happy to play at home.

The New York Times reported that "Arena said he would not have made the trade against Magee's wishes."

But, yeah. Hopefully he continues to be the clutch goal scorer he was in the playoffs previously this time around. And with the addition of Cole, Rogers is now playing what I think is a better position for him at right back. Full backs are much better in attack on the side of their strong foot.
