At SDCC 2015 had a new 'discussion' with SmytheKing when he admitted he never saw RHPS.

What is the movie or (are the) Movies you have not seen, that almost invalidate you as a movie watcher. I have never done the group experience Rocky Horror, but found it strange that someone had NEVER seen it.

Ok, I'll start, after throwing a dear friend under the bus...

http://i27.photobucket.com/albums/c179/rtbstrd1331/rtbstrd1331183/the-exorcist_zpsr0apzbly.jpg (http://s27.photobucket.com/user/rtbstrd1331/media/rtbstrd1331183/the-exorcist_zpsr0apzbly.jpg.html)

Have never seen from start to finish. Seen bits, know the bullet points, almost feel as if seeing it would be a disappointment at this stage.

Now you go lady...

Actually the dvd still in cellophane im most ashamed of is "its a wonderful life"

I am terrified of this movie, it practicallyplays on a loop during the holidays meaning everyone has seen it, so i cant actually watch it. All i know about it is theres a scrooge and a really grateful cratchet.

Absolutely watch strangelove with other virgins or someone you realy trust. Its a fantastic movie that can totally be ruined. Basically think about when hbo aired airplane as filler all ****ing day between their new releases and the making of shorts, they would have done this with that movie. As a result everyone who has seen it, probably has seen it waaay to many ****ing times. Lines are quoted due to roadhouse on tbs frequency which hurts

Bah! I can deal with you not watching The Exorcist. Haha. I even watched that movie dubbed in Spanish when I visited Latin America.

But never seen Dr Strangelove? :nono:

That's just wrong.

But since we're playing.

I've never seen Avatar. The James Cameron movie. :P

AFI did a 100 best movies sometime ago and I've seen every movie on that list except one. A Marx brothers movie. I didn't want to be that guy who had never seen "insert a famous movie here." ;)

I've never seen Birth of a Nation. I am a silent film geek, but that movie is really racist, so I've hesitated.

I've also never seen all of Gone with the Wind, despite owning it.

However, since those have both been mentioned, I'll add I've also never seen any Satyajit Ray movie, despite owning several.

I've watched Gone With the Wind. It was on the AFI list.

It's pretty racist too, but it's a guilty pleasure of mine just because it's so over the top.

Since most of what I've seen is from the last 15 years or so, there are WAY too many to name. That being said, I've thought of a group I haven't seen that I actually have an inclination to see(unlike Avatar). I've seen so much garbage, there's really no excuse to have missed any of these.

Saving Private Ryan
Shawshank Redemption
Fight Club
Inception
Donnie Darko
Memento
Taxi Driver
Reservoir Dogs
Good Will Hunting
(No Country for Old Men, There Will Be Blood, The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford)

seen most of the above mentioned.

the real criminal is my husband. i had to make him watch a clockwork orange, point break, chinatown, the sandlot, it's a wonderful life, etc. he's not a real movies kind of person. on the flipside, when we first started dating, he made me watch the shining, which i had never seen. both of us' favorite movies star jack nicholson, go figure.

Rocky Horror Picture Show
Super Troopers
Godfather II

Lawrence of Arabia (I've seen up until he meets Obi Wan and then I never get any further)

I have a list I created a few months ago called "15 in '15" - 15 movies I'd never seen that I wanted to watch this year. I wanted the list to include a range of times and genres.

Clockwork Orange
Alien
2001
The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly
Seven Samurai
Psycho
The Shining
Raging Bull
The Artist
The Seventh Seal
Dark Crystal
Any movie starring Charlie Chaplin
Midnight in Paris
North by Northwest
Lawrence of Arabia

There are more I haven't seen, but this was my list for the year. I've seen the movies in bold so far.

The hilarious sex in the pool is enough reason to watch Showgirls.

Starting with the good ones already mentioned previously:

Rocky Horror. No desire to see this either. LOTR and Harry Potters fall in to this category as well. Anything else I'd bother to list I probably would want to see.
The Exorcist
Dr. Strangelove
The Shining
Psycho
Any Jurassic Park
The Dark Knight Batman films
Most comic book movies other than the first few X-Men and Iron Man 1 and 2. Don't know what all the fuss is about.
E.T. and Indiana Jones. Maybe as a kid but don't remember.
The Princess Bride
any Monty Python

After going through the imdb top 250 I don't think anything else too egregious stands out. I've seen anything on it made in the last 35 years that I'd want to see. The rest would be stuff from the 60's and older.

Showgirls is a monument to all that is right in the world, you monstrosities!!!

How can you possibly dislike a film where people deliver lines like these with straight faces:

"Man, everybody got AIDS and ****!"
"You got low self-esteem baby, you're a fantastic ****."
"I used to love Doggy Chow, too!"
"I want my nipples to press, but I don't want them to look like they're levitatin'!"
"She's no butterfly. Tony, she's all pelvic thrust. I mean, she prowls. She's got it!"
"I'm erect. Why aren't you erect?"
"It must be weird, not having anybody come on you."
"You got something wrong with your nipples?"
"She looks better than a ten-inch dick and you know it!"

I am a HUGE Alfred Hitchcock fan. I would say that he's probably my favorite director, but aside from The Lodger, I haven't seen any of his silent films. I have watched most of his sound films, including all his British ones. I have missed about 2-3 of his sound American films, most notably to To Catch a Thief. I have had plenty of chances to watch To Catch a Thief, but have hesitated because I want there to be at least one good Sound Hitchcock film out there for me to watch for the first time. The again, maybe I should just watch it, or I'll end up floating upside down before I finish watching all of his movies, haha. :P

The first five minutes alone are a masterclass in unintentional comedy.

Yes. Curious as to what you thought of the rest? This film needs more recognition.

I haven't seen it at all.

In any state.

In this matter you are exempt from my ire because you are not Orpheus.

Even though I have friends who are gigantic fanboys of the guy, I have never seen a Miyazaki film. I'm sure I would love them, but I just don't care to watch them. Don't care much for animation films.

Give them a try. Maybe Spirited Away first.

I CONQUERED MY GREAT WHITE WHALE!!!!!

Look, I thought, due to all the parodies/tributes over the years...I saw this movie without seeing it. I spent YEARS not watching because I thought it could never satisfy. SOOOOOOOO much more to see. This movie was old school, actually satisfying the story of the movie you were watching, instead of 'World Building' and setting up the trilogy. Dick Smith was the GODFATHER...and his fx STILL hold up. The slow burn of the story mixed with the teasing fx...man, that was old school Hollywood magic. The scales have fallen and I have seen the movie that is justifiably top of the lists as far as horror in my lifetime. I still have to watch SORCERER, but Friedkin is a pimp.

A celebration is in order, I think! partytime

One of the horror websites I frequent does a 31 days of Halloween activity in which peeps watch a horror movie a day for the entire month. I didn't watch as many as 31 movies, mind you, but I did participate as an excuse to watch many a horror film that I hadn't seen. I mean, seriously, how does someone who likes Stuart Gordon and Lovecraft never seen Dagon? Well, I've seen it now thanks to the activity, among other films which I will write about soon in the movie thread. Some head scratching holes in my horror movie history, but nothing as embarrassing as never having seen The Exorcist. :P

OK peeps...

Cross another one off my list.

FINALLY saw Dr Strangelove. AND I saw it on a movie screen to boot at the lovely and talented little Cinefamily.

Thoughts: Not surprisingly, very relevant in today's world. But it is a pretty slight movie. Peter Sellers, of course, was very good. Especially as the RAF captain...but I felt the Strangelove character was a little 'Robin Williams schticky'. I know it was supposed to be, but it just kinda took me out of the movie for a minute. The REAL standout was George C. Scott. Jayzus, who knew how funny that man was? Always seemed kinda dour. Man, he just cut loose. I'm sorry it took so long for me to finally see, and I am glad I did just for Scott. The ending was pretty damned groovy too. Pretty sure this one is safe from the remake/reboot wagon.

Ok Orph...now you gotta get a damned bluray player before they become obsolete.

For the love of God, man, have you seen it yet??? Very much a contender for my favorite movie of all time, and possibly the most quotable movie of all time.

I am always happy when somebody watches Dr. Strangelove for the first time. On the other hand, for the love of G-d, how did you get this far in life without watching that movie? *sigh* It might be in my top ten, like, ever.

So basically, I am experiencing...

This thread is about brutal honesty Orph. I have sinned and I did my penance. I still have not and will not see, Citizen Kane, Gone with the Wind, and I am sure countless others that I would get stoned for under the right circumstances. Speaking of getting stoned under the right circumstances...:rasta:

Yup. Had never seen. Saw it at the New Beverly on a double bill with Christmas Story. I'll get even more honest...never seen a Capra movie, or a Jimmy Stewart movie. You always hear about Capra's schmaltzy leanings...But damn if this isn't one fine movie. And Jimmy Stewart, pretty good actor, that guy. Nice comedic chops, all in the delivery and physical humor. And genuine emotions, not just manipulation. Guess the hype was real.

Capra was schmaltzy, but if you with it, this is one good movie, I watch almost yearly.

I love when Jimmy Stewart was a kid working for that old man in the drugstore, who is drunk because he heard his son died in the war, and takes in on the boy by smacking him. Apparently, the man was hitting the boy for real. :O That boy had balls.

Another funny scene is that George learns all the fate of his friends & family if he hadn't been born, and they make it seem that the worst fate was Donna Reed because she didn't marry and works in a library. Oh, noes! Ending up as an unmarried woman is the worst. Even more so than other characters who ended up in jail or dead. Sexist, but a product of its time. Lol.

And Donna Reed here is less than thirty so it's not like she can't get married, lol.

You really should watch. It's truly deserving of it's praise and it seems just about as timely as it is ever going to be. Held off forever thinking it was sentimental claptrap, which it kind of is. But it's so earnest, and anchored by such a wonderful Jimmy Stewart performance. Do yourself a favor.

Nope. I've seen it, and I can't get past the shmaltz. Then again, I also live on a mountain top and hate The Whos.

Dooode. Jammer. *sigh* As the only godless, robot from space on this board I wholeheartedly support your anti-stance. That being said, if it's just you have not gotten around to watching it, dude, not okay. Today's the day, make the time.

I love me some black and white movies with Jimmy Stewart and/or Cary Grant. My fave: Arsenic and Old Lace. Cary is having the best day of his life and the worst day of his life on the same day. So freaking dark and awesome.

And that's also directed by Capra. See, he could have a dark sense of humor.

I like Cary Grant largely since he came out in so many Hitchcock movies. His performance in Notorious is one of the best.

I am a pretty cynical and bitter guy, but sometimes one needs something schmaltzy. Obviously, some in these category have layers and some are just cheesy.

Like I really dislike the ending for A.I. I don't think had Kubrick directed instead of Mr. Schmaltz, Spielberg, he would've laid out the schmaltz like one's Jewish grammy making matzo ball, lol. Then again, Kubrick's Path of Glory, which is a great movie has a pretty schmaltzy ending if you think about it.
