View Full Version : World Series 2017 - Dodgers vs. Astros

Not big into predictions, but I will say if the Dodgers continue to work those 6-8 pitch at-bats (I think this is the LA's biggest strength) and wear down the Astros' starters to get to the bullpen (Houston's bullpen is easily the biggest weakness of either club) this will end well. Otherwise right now I'm just a giddy little schoolgirl that will throw a major temper tantrum if they lose. Go Doyers!

School girl giddiness is the perfect description of how I feel; nervous but excited. Will defer to you on the analytics of the situation. I've been reading the same box scores and articles as everyone else and my, my, is Plaschke is getting flowery. But, hey, sing when you're winning. =)

Started receiving unflattering pictures of Tommy Lasorda eating spaghetti via text very early this morning from my Red Sox fan friend. Clown. May need a Michelada based lunch to even this nonsense out.

Nice!

Did you see the look on the Astro's faces when they scanned the bench in the 9th when Kenley took the mound? Total defeat.

Roenick: I feel you on the sweep but upon hungover reflection, they are going to make the Dodgers earn it. Challenge accepted. Really hope this goes the distance because so far people are getting their money's worth. Was way too nervous yesterday about Hill reverting back to well, Rich Hill but he held his own, good for him. Cannot believe that he's our number two guy, but that's Dave's call. Not worried at all with Darvish on the mound Friday and content with the home split.

Side note: Who is the catcher for the Astros, Evan Gattis? Sweet Jesus that is the manliest-man I've ever seen. Seriously, when he came up to bat everything slowed down, the molecules in the air began to twinkle and 'Dream Weaver' started to play in my head.

The Dodgers were actually fortunate to be in that game last night, with only 5 hits. I can also see why Roberts pulled Hill so early. The Dodgers were already down 1-0, and the Astros had been getting men on base against him. If the lead grew more, with Verlander on the mound, the Dodgers would have been in deep trouble. I think Roberts went to his pen to keep it close. THen, all heck broke loose in the late innings. Remember, these are the two best teams, and the first time since 1970 that two 100 win teams are in the World Series. This has seven games written all over it, and if last night was any indication, we're well on our way to an all-time classic. Enjoy!

Seems like to me both teams managers wanted to get a win for their respective ace and conceded the win/loss. Hence, no Justin v. Clayton.

The Dodgers did not look good last night. No bats and not the greatest pitching. 2 errors cost them as well. If they keep this up they lose the series, obviously.

The game actually resembled playoff baseball. Both starters were on their game and the managers left them in (the whole pulling after 40 pitches is getting old). I probably would have had Belly bunt (I'm old) but whatevs. :awesome:

Maeda throwing that 87 mph softie down the middle to Altuva with 2 men on base in the bottom of the 5th, after he’d just hit 4 fouls, was the game changer. If he’d thrown a slider, curve or just walked him, would have been a Dodger win. Even with a full count, you just don’t do that. It gave the Astros the idea that they could actually come back and win it. And they did.

What an idiot.

Only a pitcher that can pitch a winning WS game for an entire 9 innings can ever be mentioned in the same sentence with Koufax. Ergo, no one ever again will be mentioned. I just don't see bullpens managed that way anymore, nor his kind of raw talent, grit and stamina in the newer generation of players.

The juiced balls have made it a circus, not a series. They should have to put an asterisk on the whole thing. Also, the ball/strike calls have been a joke. After the "game" last night and reading about the different balls, I feel like this doesn't even mean anything. The Walking Dead is more realistic than this.

Our all star pitchers failed when this team needed them most. If they just DO their job, this series would already be over.

It all boils down to ratings and revenue. The MLB wants 7 close, high scoring games for that reason. And they’ve been successful.

Saw many pitches called strikes that weren’t but in the later innings the strike zone tightened up in key situations. Bad job all around by the home plate ump.

The home plate umpiring was bad for both teams. But I do have issues with team that can't hold a 4-run lead, and then a 3-run lead, with a championship on the line.

Dodgers didn't deserve to win last night. Looking forward to seeing a hungry, focused team tomorrow night.

Think about how much extra ad revenue they juiced from a five-hour game - MLB & FOX's evil plan worked to perfection!

Agreed, but the awful punchout of Kike probably tilted the bull**** needle to the Dodgers' side. That said, I only posted the Texas-area strike zone pic because it was funny (which was posted originally by Burbank PD: https://twitter.com/BurbankPD) and not because I fell the Dodgers got completely screwed. If the Astros had lost they very easily could have used a California-shaped strike zone twitter funny.

They didn't, and I think the Dodgers will come out similar to Game 4 and play like the team they were the majority of the year. And I fully expect MLB to bring out the normal balls for this one in hopes of a tense pitcher's duel, then if Game 7 transpires out of that (Puig said it would!) they'll bring out the slickery juice balls and let them go at it home run derby style until the last man is standing. Win/Win for MLB/Fox.

Was there, great atmosphere. Even Astro fans were acknowledging how great a series this has been so far after the game. Totally surprised Roberts pulled Hill early again for a spent bullpen, and also went to Kenley for six outs (again), but hey, it worked. Figure we've got Yu, Cingrani, possibly Wood and definitely Kersh, plus Kenley can still go tomorrow. (I think he threw less than 20 pitches?) I like that setup. Either way I just hope it's close to close out this classic series in the right way.

Damn, were you ever correct with this. Though it was drizzling and high humidity, there's no way that those were the same balls used in the last couple of games. The pitchers had more control, and the bats weren't sending them into the stands. IMO, makes for a much better game. I don't want to see a home run derby; I want to see good old fashioned, strategic baseball game where a bunt or sac fly could be the difference maker, like last night.

Officially cannot process my feelings from last night’s game.

Turner’s glove, Segar’s bat speed, Pederson needing to get paid, Hill’s comedic genius at the plate and Lasorda clowning Roberts. Only a fool would say this goodness was not enough and want more. But, being painfully self-aware of my fool status: Please 'big Dodger in the sky' give us one more!

Very disappointing game tonight, not only because the Dodgers lost, but also because a series this great deserved a better (closer) game 7 than this. This series is still among the all-time best, but the great ones ('75, '91, '01) all had the game 7's decided in the last at bat. This game puts this series a slight notch below the others.
