Soooo, Mighty Chris Young gets shelled tonight and Jake Peavy goes tomorrow on 3 days rest? This very well could signal the collapse of the Pads season if Peavy loses tomorrow.

Here's a to a ton of foul balls and Bob Melvin giving every batter the take sign early and often against Peavy.

"Peavy has career worst outing on short rest" (http://msn.foxsports.com/mlb/story/7191592)

PHOENIX (AP) - The Arizona Diamondbacks took it as a challenge when Jake Peavy asked to face them on three days' rest.

The worst-hitting team in the NL raked San Diego's ace for eight runs and defeated the Padres 9-6 on Wednesday night to take a one-game lead over San Diego in the NL West.
The eight earned runs matched a career high for Peavy, who lasted only four innings, his shortest start since July 21, 2006.

OK, i'll be the first Padre fan that bites...

That was as up and down as i've ever been in a game. Great game all in all. It's hard to be really upset, i mean besides the heart-wrenching nature of it. You win or lose with your best players, and our two best players killed us last night. If Peavy is even remotely Peavy-like, we have a good lead going into the 7th. And if you told me that Trevor'd be in with a 2-run lead, i'd say that's pretty much the best situation we could be in. That's a hell of a way to finish, but i'm not going to let it overshadow what was all-told a pretty impressive season. So soak it up Dodger fans, at least we mattered (slightly) this year.

JackBarlow
October 2nd, 2007, 11:46 AM
The Padres finishd the regular season ONE game behind the D-Backs, TIED with the NL East winning Phils, and a better record then the NL Central Cubs. ONE win away from being TIED for the BEST RECORD IN THE NATIONAL LEAGUE.

Where did your Dodgers finish? 4th???? 4th????? How many millions are you going to spend in the off-season this year to finish in 4th again??

Our arms were tired, our 2 starting OF's were hurt, and our ace reliever shouldn't have even been put in that situation after losing on Saturday. Peavy is not a big game pitcher despite his 19 wins and solid numbers and Hoffman should retire.

We'll be back next year, I guarantee it.

Dodgers finished what this yera?? 4th ?? Padres finished the regular season what....ONE game behind the BEST record in the National League??? Tied with Philly, better then the Cubs? Where did the dodgers finish? 4th place, two games over the .500 marka nd how many millions more did they spend the Pads on the payroll? Hell, we even got 2 wins from Tomko! The dodgers only got 2 wins from him all year and we got 2 wins from him in THREE starts!

Don't worry, that Linebrink for Thatcher trade is looking better each day. We found our new closer, Hoffman is done. Ace him. Trade Peavy for a bat and a SP that can win a game that counts. We'll be back next year and the Azul will be back in 4th again.

3rd place, 4th place...does it make any difference? Guess what, the Padres are staying home, too. Better be worried about your future because you don't have any great young talent outside of Adrian Gonzalez. Khalil Greene? He's nice, but he's no kid. And better watch out for Peavy, he might just opt out.

Barrett, M. Giles, Cameron, Ensberg, and Bradley are FA's. Maddux could possibly retire. Hoffman is going to be another year older. Young still has to prove he can come back from that injury (though he should). Peavy still can't pitch under pressure. The Padres don't have much money to start with and Greene is arbitration eligible. A lot more problems than AZ, LA, or COL have.

Milton Bradley's triumphant surge as a clubhouse leader, and his ability to have no breakdowns that THANKFULLY didn't cost his team down the stretch.

No one hates the Padres, they've never done anything worthy of them deserving the hate. Have them win a world series and maybe they'll be more than a blip on the radar, until then they are just the red headed step child to the south.

BTW... they still didn't win the west.

No, the Padres haven't. They did just wrapped up the best pitcher in the National League until 2012 so I'd say that's a great start. How many wins is Joe Torre gonna get the Dodgers this year?

Another question to the blue faithful... when does the statute of limitations run out on reliving the past. I'd say 20 years(1988)...after that you just become raider fan!(1984)

If that one playoff game to decide the Division Winner and Wild Card makes you feel better, you can have it. The fact remains that the Dodgers and Padres both made the playoffs with an 88-74 record.

2005..."won" the division by winning 82 games.

LOL, you've got to be ****ing ****tin' me. You don't judge closers solely on the number of saves. Jose Valverde had the most saves last year. Yay! He was officially the best closer last year!

Saves is the most overrated stat in pitching, outside of W/L.

Yes, and speaking of being in the "now," we have trounced the Chargers collectively over the past five years or so (despite our sporadic *****tiness).

See...someone gets it.

You are correct. For some reason the Chargers have only 1 win in the last 4 games vs the Jets. The playoff win while we were standing in the rain really hurt!

2005 Chargers win week 9...31-26
2004 Jets win week 2...34-28 and 1st rd playoff win 20-17
2003 Jets win week 9...44-13

I don't know why I thought you were Raider fan. Are you sure your not? Usually only uneducated Raider fans resort to name calling...

Hoffman needs to take a seat and watch Heath Bell for a game or two. Maybe that'll wake him up. His confidence is shot! Without his 3 bad outings the Padres would be 6-1.

Gee, I'm sorry...he didn't have a blown save the last outing. He just sucked so the Padres would have been 5-1 and ?...is that better.

Actually I think I'm fairing quite well for a 50-1 Dodgers to Padres ratio. Now that we got everyone off of the "your team has never won crap" kick!

Well, to be fair to me, it wasn't just that.

It was also your hilariously ironic grammatical error in your accusation of me being "uneducated."

Not to mention you citing Hoffman's "confidence being shot" as the reason for his bad games, when it's really the fact that he's just getting older and worse at baseball.

Not to mention your team just lost the home series.

Not to mention you're terrible and I'm the best.

Heyo!

P.S. Not to mention nobody cares about the Padres.

Nas-ty.

Concur with the Karma... I'll have to get Brett to bring Rock of Love III to Dodger stadium for something then. It brings no one closer to any titles other than "one hit wonder" and "where are they now".

Claw21

Well Heath Bell has definately found success with the Padres. Prior to last year he was atrocious. I like him better as a 7th inning/8th inning guy. As a closer, I'm not so sure. But right now, he's better than Hoffman. But it's the Padres so I don't give a rat's ass.

Do the Padres have a future closer in their system? They gotta.

SD and SF are 28th and 29th in the league in runs scored. Not good.

Even with excellent starting 3 and decent 4, the Dirt Mads can't expect to contend unless their bats wake up. And I thought the DODGERS offense was suspect!
