The Penalty Box was closed last night so we went to El Cholo, right near LA Live by the Metro station. Birdman told me he eats there all the time so we thought we'd check it out. We were floored by the taste and quality of the dishes and will go back regularly for sure. Sheri had some stuffed adobo chiles with red sauce over them and green sauce covering the plate and raved about it. I had enchiladas mariscos that were stuffed with lobster, shrimp and scallops. OMG! it was better than I hoped it would be (which doesn't happen often) with plenty of seafood and great sauce.

The place has a great vibe in the garden area, you would hardly know you are in the middle of a parking lot at LA Live. I also liked the signed pic of Michael Jackson in the hallway, surprised it's still there and not on Ebay. ;)

It's among the top Mexican places I have ever tried and that's saying a lot. Be back soon!

I am from San Diego and my parents are coming to visit. I am taking them to Santa Monica, LA, and staying the night in Long beach so they can see the queen Mary. If anyone has a good restaurant, please leave me the name so I can look it up. I been to Santa Monica and LA so I have a few places, but Long beach is the most help I would need. Thank you.

I took my wife out for her birthday yesterday to the Foundry on Melrose for dinner last night.

It is owned and run by Chef Eric Greenspan who unlike a lot of places owned by a "celebrity chef"(he has been on and won Iron Chef America against Bobby Flay) was actually in the kitchen working on the food that was prepaired for us.

The food was fantastic. We had Rib Eye as well as an Aspargus appetizer and the Beet salad. With a couple of cocktails each it still came to around $150.00

One nice thing we did not know is that they do allow you to bring 2 bottles of wine without charging a corkage fee. ($10.00 per bottle for the 3rd or more)
Only drawback is parking in the area.
