    How about some dollar sushi?

Luckyfish, the revolving sushi joint from the Sushi Roku crew turns one today. To celebrate, everything on the menu is going for $1. Yes, $1. Ah, youth... The birthday bonanza ends at 11 p.m.

It might not be sushi, but Gogi House in Santa Clarita is around $20 or so for all you can eat Korean BBQ. Gogi House is owned by the same guy who owns or at least started Kyoto sushi.

Gogi House has the grill in the table, so you order the food, comes raw, cook it right there. Awesome.

Sushi Mac, on Olympic and Sawtelle, right where the 10 and the 405 come together.

It's not all you can eat, but it's cheap and it's GOOOOOOOOOOOD.

I usually go to Kyoto once every month or so for all you can eat. It is average at best. I like their Shrimp tempura which is all you can eat too... Everyone is right, you dont get the same exact quality as places that dont have all you can eat.
Secondly, there is a sushi place in the Chuy's/Outback lot. I dont know if this the same place you are talking about. I heard this sushi place was good too.

Never had sushi before, but feel like I should.

    1. What's something that's not too strange to start with?

    2. What's the weirdest thing most places would have? I'd like to try that, too.

I started with albacore and really liked it. It's usually seared on the outside, so it's a good starter.

    1. tuna or salmon. or even more tame and simple: tuna roll w/ the tuna wrapped up in rice and seaweed. my japanese friend is really weird and only eats two rolls: one tuna, one cucumber.

    2.
    a) amaebi - sweet shrimp. good places will have a tank of shrimp. when you order, they'll take two shrimp out, rip their heads off, throw the heads in a deep fryer and slice up the body and serve it up on a small slab of rice. it's really good actually.
    b) uni - sea urchin. i don't really like it. my husband calls it cat tongue sushi.
    c) my personal favorite that i get whenever i can is tobiko - flying fish eggs. it's not the same as masago, which is smelt eggs. the latter are smaller and don't really pop in your mouth like the flying fish eggs do. i don't particularly think this one's as "weird" per se, but i don't really know anyone else who always orders it like i do.
also, i don't really like salmon eggs, which is another option. those eggs are too big and liquidy and not quite as crunchy as the flying fish eggs are.

i can't think of anymore, but if i do, i'll post... damn... i miss sushi. :(

don't go with the salmon if you do not like oily fish. That is the one reason I do not eat salmon. Go with the straight ebi as well. Just plain old shrimp and it is a good stand by. I also like tuna like lunchie said. Another one, and this is preference for me is the unagi- which actually with the sauce on top tastes like teriyaki chicken

oh ya, spjon's got a point. unagi and ebi are cooked also so if you find you can't wrap your mind/tongue around raw fish/seafood, those are good ones to have. i, personally, haven't really had unagi much because eels kind of freak me out.

i can only eat cooked seafood right now though and i've been craving sushi BAD, so i might get over the eel thing and just try it finally (along with some other things).
