i've gotten less and less excited about them over the last few years to the point where they are now just above the other chain joints.

it's funny, when old friends long since moved away are returning to visit, they always bring up how they can't wait to have In n Out. often times, it's first on their priority list of things to do once they get here... and i'm always compelled to say - hey, things have changed since you've been gone... they ain't top dog anymore, and there's some s*** you should try.

i don't ever give in to that compulsion because i ultimately realize that it's a concept thing about being home... it has to be, right?

Yeah, since you can only ever have it here.

I tell ya, when I went to live in the Bay Area, there were two things I always wanted when I got home - a Wienershnitzel chili dog combo and a hamburger special from practically ANY of the many neighborhood burger joints. Those two things just weren't available up there, and whenever I wanted one, I just couldn't have it.

When I want a burger now, though, let me know where there's a Five Guys or a Carl's to start with. Heck, I'd even probably take a Whopper over In-N-Out. And I've never had one of the Angus Burgers from McDonoald's, but their fries and coke mix alone....

it happens when you go to In N Out a lot, like every week or every month, that it kills the excitement. then you move away for a long while, and what's the first thing you want to have when you get back? In N Out. at least that's what I would want.
I BELIEVE I'll have another beer!

i only used to eat it once every 6 mo.s to a yr and i am flat not into it anymore. i got sick from an in n out stop on the way to tahoe last july and that's the last time i had it and i can honestly say i haven't craved it since. my husband will grill a burger once a month or so though and that pretty much satisfies any burger cravings i get, so maybe i'm just not a big burger fanatic.

That's one of the things that drives my sister crazy about Las Vegas, and it's the lack of a local mom/pop hamburger place. She says she can't find the mom/pop type pastrami sandwich on the roll with the mustard and pickles. She can get a New York Deli style pastrami sandwich but not the other kind.
