Thread: Anyone been to New Orleans...eaten Crayfish???

I spent 12 days there back in 1994 and 7 days in 2001. I fell in LOVE with Lou's anna/Naw'lins style crawdads.

Every year, since I left Hawaii 5 years ago, Ive been ordering crayfish from Louisiana.

This year I had family and friends over for my first hosted "boil". 16 people in fact. I ordered 140 pounds of dads from my supplier...

What a FANTASTIC TIME!

One of the coolest things I have done (living on the east coast for 10 of the last 25 years) has to be being invited to or hosting a "boil" or "steam". There is nothing like sitting with a ****load of family and friends drinking and eating endless amounts crustaceans or mollusks, Crayfish, Crab or Clams. What a fantastic time we had.


Any Crawfish/ New Orleans Creole Style fans?

Any East coaster input?

I love New Orleans. Where else can you eat 3 pounds of crawfish, slam a 48oz Hurricane, and stumble right into a Vodoo Store??? Killer!

I had crawdads at one of my dads friends in TX... I loved them! That is the one and only time i've gotten the opportunity to eat them, and I would not hesitate to eat them again. It was fun watching them before they were "boiled" they kept crawling out of the sink....

Feel free to invite me to the next boil.

I've been to New Orleans several times but the only place I've eaten crayfish was in Panama City Beach, Florida...but they were done Cajun style if I recall.

Being a New Englander I've had my share of lobster. Now, they're not the same thing but I could definitely get into the crayfish if they were always that good. They were actually pretty abundant in the river that runs by my home...not that I would have considered eating them.

That's pretty funny. Minus the crayfish and few ounces of Hurricane that was my 21st birthday celebration. Add in some body shots off a bartender at Coyote Ugly and a lap dance I only barely remember from some other joint, and a helluva hangover and there you go.

Love them! Great in NOLA and MS!

The one thing that made all the boil/steam parties that I've been to was the "closeness" I felt with everyone. There is just 'something' about sitting outside with 20-30 people on park benches, drinking beer or wine or booze, and pounding on crabs or crawdads for 6 hours. Its such a bonding experience. Seriously.

I ordered the 140lb Custom Party Pack. I normally order the 30lb Party Pack which fills 6 people pretty well. Their Cajun spices are TOP NOTCH! I've ordered from them for 5 years now and the WORST die off in transit Ive seen is 5%. Even the 140lbs only had a 6lb die off in transit. The order usually goes from them in Louisiana to my door in about 14 hours via FedEx...Fantastic.

Get the Andouille Sausage (http://www.lacrawfish.com/Comeauxs-S...sage-P155.aspx) and/or Gator Bites (http://www.lacrawfish.com/Alligator-Nuggets-P186.aspx) if you can afford it. ALSO, buy as much sweet corn as you can! Cut it into halves and boil them in the pot after the crawdads are done. Add halved Red Potatoes. Add the second seasoning they give you when you pull the dads out and BLAM, ****ing Cajun Heaven...SOLID!

Real quick.... They toss a bunch of authentic, heavy, real "Naw'lins" style Mardis gras beads in the cooler also. I received about 100 last weekend. In fact, my cool-ass, 85 year old (Iced Cuervo 1800 sipp'n) Grand Aunt almost lynching my mom's Chihuahua with those F-ing beads... lmao!

Dude, you got me!! I am so going for at least a 20lb pack sometime soon! I love da mud bugs! (Though I usually have them Swedish style with dill in August, but Cajun is great too.)

I've got a 24 qt. boiler with strainer. Would that work for 20 lbs?
