Bacon wrapped hot dogs....
Okay my latest culinary obsession is bacon wrapped hot dogs....
I just made my third version today and its so far the best.
Wrap the bacon over the hot dog, toothpicked the ends to hold it tight, then I massaged the ****ers with this Applewood rub that I found. Holy ****, that made a difference, works perfectly with the bacon and the hot dog. I found this hickory maple rub that looks intriguing as well. Then I threw them on the grill until it started to get crispy and just enough char around the egdes and grill spots. I topped two in my standard fashion with a little Tapatio and some shredded extra sharp cheddar. The third one I topped with some baked beans (al la chili dogs).
The first few times I made these I fried them....certainly good but the grill method works much better IMO. I'm thinking the only way to improve it would be to put them in a smoker.
Anyone else make these, and if so what methods and such do you have different from mine? I wanna try different things and perfect these, as I'm already too far gone to ever eat a hot dog the regular way ever again. If the hot dog doesn't have bacon on it...not going into my digestive system.

I once went to Mexico and had bacon wrapped hot dogs.
They put sour cream on top of them.
How about no?

Ya, I've had them that way...they aren't bad but I'm not a big sour cream guy so I tried my own thing. The baked beans and cheddar on top was a great idea though. The tapatio and cheedar is also very good.

Yeah, I thought about that, I went with baked beans though just cause themz and bacon just go together....sweet, savory, smoky....numz.

I used this McCormicks Applewood rub, its really good. It goes perfectly with the bacon, there is actually applewood bacon you can buy. But if you're generous with it, it actually forms a bit of a crust and enhances the crispy of the bacon and seals in all the juices of the hot dog.

I'm gonna make some more tonight for the game with this hickory/maple rub I picked up...sounds like it should work. These have sort of become the standard game watch food at my house over the last few weeks, the people that come over love them.
