There used to be a Bear Pit in Glendale about 20 years ago.
They closed it and turned it into a Chinese restaurant and just recently
leveled the place and are building a new Chipotle restaurant.

I remember the food being very good and affordable, but I have never been
to the one in North Hills.

As far as Dr. Hoggly's, I used to go there when I worked in the area and as
someone has pointed out, it just isn't what it used to be.

I work within walking distance of the Bear Pitt and have never been thrilled. If you think this is good barbecue you need to get out of California. Everything I've had there is dry and bland unless you cover it with sauce. Their coleslaw is awful and the beans are average at best. The garlic bread is OK if you can handle the grease dripping off of it.

There's a place in San Diego called Phil's that has good barbecue, but I have yet to find anything good in the LA area. I've been thinking about trying Dave's in Simi, but haven't gotten around to it yet.

Personally, I think barbecue should be juicy and flavorful before applying sauce. I miss Texas.

    That is all. Salami out.
