Given your screen name, you really should be pretty embarrassed for acting like this is something new. Google "Guinness float"

I've been reading that "the place" to get one of these concoctions is at The Golden State on Fairfax just north of Beverly. They do one scoop of iced cream from Scoops into a glass of Old Rasputin Beer on draft.

I need to try one ASAP.

It's even better when you just skip the beer and steal all the vanilla ice cream out of your boyfriend's float. :D

I tried that 20 years ago in college on a dare. It was disgusting then; I'm guessing not much has changed.

well, it would help if you mention what beer it was that you used.

Back then there weren't as many choices... I'm pretty sure it was Guinness, though it may have been Mackeson. Are the stouts you're using chilled before you put the ice cream in? Because whatever I had was not. I just remember a lot of slimy mouthfeel that got more and more unpleasant as the ice cream melted into lactic goo. I won the bet, but it was close.

That actually wouldnt be too bad with the right beer. Like BeerMan said, Stone Brewery has an anniversary Bitter Chocolate Oatmeal Stout that would be really good if you had a scoop of vanilla in it.

I have come to the conclusion that the best way to enjoy a beer float, whether used with a bittery black porter, a Guinness, a red ale, or what have you, is to use low low fat vanilla ice cream. my choice would be Breyer's lactose-free vanilla.

but then again, that's just my obscure opinion.
I BELIEVE I'll have another beer!
