Default Best way to cook Brats??

Having a big blow out on the fourth at my house (my first born's birthday actually) and it is going to be a grilled sausage fest culminating in bratwurst. Who has the best way to cook them? Please share! Thanks.

the best way to cook a brat is to first start with your Mirepoix... add 1 cup of beef stock, 1 cup of chicken stock and 4 cups of water, cut of their grubby little hands and add them to your stock pot. bring to a boil, then lower heat. cook until half the liquid is gone (about 2hrs) then add 4 pints of Guiness.

during those two hours you should have removed all the hair and teeth from the brat and are now ready to fire roast the f***er.

    take an old boxspring...

oh wait, you meant "brat" as in bratwurst, right?

    nevermind...

cook them stove-top with a nice ale and onions. Once cooked, transfer them to the grill to get the skin nice and crispy.

Have some curry ketchup and pretzel rolls handy.

My Chicago friends swear that cheap beer works the same as expensive beer. Their Brats are great.

Ok so this was what I was thinking as well. Do you cook/brown the onions first or just cut them up and put them in the beer and bratwurst? Additionally how long do you boil on the stove top?

slightly poke a hole in all the brats, place them in a deep pot, pour 2 bottles of beer (Newcastle is my preference, one 22 oz is all I need), add the sliced yellow onion and red bell pepper (green is more bitter), bring to boil and cook over high heat til liquid is almost low and brats are all semi-white.

remove brats. cook til the rest of liquid is gone and remove the onion and bell pepper slices. set aside.

add brats to the hot grill, turn and slightly char them. warm the roll buns slightly buttered side down.

serve with brats in the buns and garnish with onion and bell pepper slices atop the brats. enjoy.
I BELIEVE I'll have another beer!
