I think BJ's is actually an excellent option for that Family/Sports casual concept. Sure, you can do better for just straight pizza but its not awful. Combine that with the fact almost anyone can find something they like on the menu there and prices are reasonable and you already beating most spots.
I haven't had any bad pizza at bj's. then again, IMO it's pretty hard to f*** up pizza. I certainly don't go there for fancy dining but I don't mind it once in a while for something casual. by once in awhile, I mean I haven't been in a couple years. when I have gone, I've never ordered anything but pizza and a pizzookie so I have no idea how the other stuff rates. their pizza tastes more like pizza than CPK does...
