Seriously. Where the hell has THIS been??
Bread is awesome. Whether you buy it at the store or make it yourself, bread fills a niche in the American diet.
Breadmakers were all the rage back in the late 90s. We got ours for a wedding gift and worked it to the point it gave up the ghost about three years back. Haven't replaced it yet, so we just buy good bread at the store.
For average everyday type bread, I really like the cracked wheat sandwich bread that Safeway/Vons puts out. Soft and flavorful, it's good for everything from PB&Js to clubs. I particularly like it toasted with crunchy peanut butter in the morning.
San Luis Sourdough (owned by Sara Lee) makes what I consider to be the BEST store-bought sourdough. Sliced about 1/4" thick, it toasts AWESOME and makes kick-ass tuna melts. In fact, I just got done eating a couple slices toasted and liberally buttered. YUM.
What're your favorite breads??
PS. Screw carb-counters.
