I actually haven't Bottle Shock yet. I have friends that have seen it and enjoyed it. It's great to see that other states are creating their own wine industries that can compete with West Coast wines.

Though I'm a fan of all wine, I'm definitely more of an Old World gal myself. I tend to prefer French and German wines over California wines, though they make some gems here no doubt about it.

i agree, there are some real good californias out there, but i'll take a french anyday. i can take a shot in the dark with a french bottle anytime and have never had a bad one yet. can't say the same for californias...

I heard this story about "ice wine" the other day. Anybody tried it? I just got a $200 gift card from my employees to BevMo so I might go get some today.

I've tried many an Eiswein. It's a 'aperitif' wine that is on the sweeter side. I'm a fan of German and Austrian Eisweins made from the Riesling or Scheurebe varietal.

If BevMo carries Weingut Selbach Oster, I would give it a try. Pricey but worth it.

Old-World wine gal orgy? Mememememeeee!!!! I want in! Last night drank most of a bottle of Chinon, pure varietal Cab. Franc. Man, like biting into a fresh green bell pepper. Friggin LOVE Chinon, but it's not for everyone. Cool thing was that I had a hard time finding fruit under those green flavors during dinner, but afterward, sucked on a big square of a certain Domori dark choco that itself has a pronounced greenness. When paired together, that character canceled each other out, and the wine exploded with dark, ripe cherries.

As much as I dig the old world earth and funk, I gotta have a variety. If I drink too much of one style for too long, I start really craving the other. And, the food being consumed will always play the biggest role in what's popped. But so cool to see old world love here!
