Originally scheduled for "summer '08", The Counter *FINALLY* opened in Honolulu. As we say, they stay Hawaiian time, braddah.
Gotta admit that is one DAMN FINE burger. Lived up to the hype. Thick, and cooked medium rare and bloody, it was more like a ground steak. VERY buttery taste.... must've sauteed in it or something.
Everything was super fresh. Bun was tasty (also buttery). Sweet potato fries w/ spicy thousand island dip were PERFECT. Fried pickles (which I was extremely excited about) weren't the best I've had, but I'll give 'em a second chance next time. Regular fries were good, but nothing remarkable. Onion rings EXACTLY like Tony Roma's. With bbq sauce. Greasy, but fine by me.
This is NOT fast food. Looks like it at a glance, but quality of ingredients, pricing, and a full bar say otherwise. Treated a close buddy (who is going through a tough divorce and needed to vent) for a leisurely dinner, and it set me back 95 bucks tip included. That was two 1/3 lb burgers, one side-order sampler, one apple crumble a la mode...... but 7 beers and a jack-rocks between us. A little shocked when the bill came, but it was a good night.
I'll go back soon. Best burger in town. The lines out the door concur.
