They really do make a helluva dog. I haven't been back since they were featured on Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives a few months back, so I imagine the lines have gotten even longer but it's absolutely worth the wait.

The deep fried dog you're talking about is the Ripper and while it's not my favorite, it's a must try. I've had about half the dogs on the menu and I always end up going back to the LA Street Dog. It's a flawless re-creation of the legendary street food.

Skooby's and Fab are outstanding. (The deep fried dog is a New Jersey creation from a place called Rutt Hut). My problem with Pink's isn't the dog it's that the chili is so bland.

If you go to Skooby's you have to get the fries

Also a fan of the Stand in Encino.
