If you're in the SFV, go to Mama's
Mama's Donuts - Lake Balboa - Van Nuys, CA
Always fresh. Always delicious. And I prefer the maple bar.
MB are my go-to as well.
But I also love KK (just the glazed, not the other types)
Donut Star - Fullerton. changed hands several times over the years, but they have a good donut baker now. We had to avoid them for several years a while back. I didn't think it was possible to make a bad donut - but it is very possible.
My favorite is a lemon-filled with that powdery goodness on the outside. Mmmmm...not a huge fan of any other particular ones. I guess my next go-to would be the apple fritter. I never dunk a donut in coffee so I can't weigh in on which are best for that.
And I really can't condone adding bacon to a donut. Why the hell do people want to add greasy dead animal to a baked good? Why? WHY? Make it stop.
Lunchie mentioned the Donuttery in Huntington Beach.
I don't know what it is, but I only seem to want donuts when either I'm in Vegas at my sister's or she's in town here. And it's always at like 11 pm or later. Why would you want donuts at like 8 am? So I saw that the Donuttery had bacon maple bars, I mentioned it to my sister and we go off on a donut trek at 9:30 pm on a Friday night. They were baking fresh donuts since the blueberry one I had was warm and awesome. It had a glaze on it so it was like a warm but a bit crunchy blueberry muffin. Mmmmm. If they were out of something they'd go in the back and make it. My sister wanted a raspberry jelly one, they didn't have any made, so the woman went in the back to fill some. So I don't see why Lunchie couldn't get her Nutella on a different donut. They had red velvet donuts and bacon maple bars as well. We bought a dozen and she threw extras in the box too.

I didn't know they could make donuts right then if they were out. the girl getting our stuff wasn't so great with English. my husband's favorite donut is the Boston cream and when I asked her if they had any she sounded confused and didn't know how to pronounce it so I didn't want to ask more questions. I'll definitely go back and ask next time since my husband's gonna want more bacon maple bars.
I tried the blueberry donut and it does totally taste like a blueberry muffin. it was ok, I think I'm just not a fruity donut person, lol.
