The Pasadena location has good points and some really bad points. Food and drinks are pretty good but the service is flat out terrible. Been to it at least 10 times and every time we have an issue with the inattentive service.

Western > Downtown > Santa Monica one.

I hate cocktails and sweet drinks. I've always been a scotch or bourbon straight kinda guy, but the strawberry margaritas at El Chollo are great.

El Cholo has a nice patio bar but that's about it, if you want real mexican food, take a drive down Grand and check out Chichen Itza.

What's that saying, the 11th time is a charm.

I love the green corn tamales. Had them in LA for decades. Finally Ron Salisbury ponies up 1.2 million and opens up in South OC (calls it Cafe Maiz). Green corn tamales become a staple for me again. Well the only thing worse than living in enemy occupied land is the complete lack of signage. This place was just off the biggest street (Crown Valley) in South OC, and across the street from the huge Mission Viejo Mall. Driving 50 feet from it, you wouldn't know it was there. Closed down due to lack of business.

Rinkrat, if you like El Cholo, you really should try El Coyote. Personally, I think it's better.
