I laughed on the phone, but they said they were buy-backs from collectors and not new releases which according to Total Wine ARE price controlled thank god. Can you imagine if it were left up to the retailers to set prices?

Funny how they said "small allotment". The whole point of doing 1 release in the Fall versus a Spring and Fall release was to allow more bottles per store.
Right. As hit on in the other thread, hopefully they "find" the stolen ones. We may just then see a few come spring. I haven't checked their case volume against previous releases, but if stocks and production are low and the demand from retailers wanting in is just too high, it would thin the availability considerably.

Or, I could just buy this...

And use the money saved to buy 1 of these...

WOW, the 15yr looks oddly light-hued compared to the warm cinnamon color of Pappy. Wait.... the bottle is not even open! Ha! It's probably Glenlivet in that glencairn glass. The 20 is well represented, and nice $50 pour btw.

Or, you can buy the Pappy, and settle for the Epiphone model like me. Sure, it's not the same. But... PAPPY!!!! I have no business owing a full Les Paul anyway.

Apparently all of us have the same hobbies & taste in fine spirits. I do have a nice Taylor acoustic (514 Fall Limited) and a Epiphone Les Paul Tribute (awesome for just $600 since it comes with authentic 57 Gibson humbuckers PUPs). What are the odds?

Actually, that Les Paul is a clone, sold by Rondomusic for under $200.

I bought an ES335-type semihollow from Rondo & it has great playing action, excellent alignment and intonation, and
a very straight neck----Feels like a 3K-4K guitar. A great platform for mods---Put great pickups and tuners on it and you've
    got a big-league git, all-the-way.

Rondomusic has been defying the odds (price-wise) and
blowing skeptics' minds for years now.

The money saved (as compared to buying a Gibson) can be used to buy premium whiskey.
    Or quality bud.

    It's a win-win*.

Well, it seems the pricing IS a little loose for retailers: a shop in my old hometown will be getting theirs in a week or two and greedily turning it around for "between $400 and $600". I can't imagine the producers and distributor would be too happy to hear this, since as their prices going out are kept reasonable, the retailer (who does basically nothing) will be horribly gouging customers and banking much, MUCH larger profits. Bastards... I hope the distributor rips their allocation (forever) and gives it to a more fair and respectable establishment.

All the finishes are nice. What did you get? I picked a sunburst cuz always wanted one, but the black on black Special II gt is awfully sweet too. Just the ProBucker p/ups on mine.

I went with the Sunburst. The finish on it was awesome. Needed a little bit of a set-up, but the Gibson 57 PUPs plus a boss BD-2 or my Ibanez TS-9 pedal is just an amazing sound. I would add a picture but I am not computer savvy at all and not sure how to do it.

Quick note: when calling around for the Pappy I've also been inquiring of the Buffalo Trace Antique Collection (I'd be thrilled to land any one of the 5, but looking for the Sazerac 18 and Thomas H. Handy ryes primarily) and it seems the buzz created for these has also gotten out of control. Tiny allocations and price-gouging along Pappy lines. So it seems gone are the days when one could go to the Hi-Times website and add any of these to your shopping cart and simply check out. C'est la vie.

    The PVW watch continues.....
