Thanks for the blog link again. Bourdain is great.

I was thinking the other day that there really needs to be some more ethnic diversity on that network. I love the Italian chefs (Giada, Chiarello), but they need those types of characters for an Asian-themed show and/or a Latin-themed show. That "Simply Delicioso" bullshi* just does not cut it.

I would hit Rachel Ray so hard, annoying voice and all.

Then I'd move on to Giada and her huge, Cammalleri-sized melon.

I know it's his shtick so he gets away with it, but unfortunately for him he AMAZINGLY and uncannily resembles 2 uncles on my mom's side who are famously avoided at all costs. They are the worst know-it-all braggarts I've ever seen, and while they are nice good-hearted guys they just bug the living **** out of you. Mercilessly. They won't shut the hell up for one second on their interests--which are of course the coolest things in the universe and which of course you couldn't care less about but try politely to play along. That's what civilized people do. We are polite, have patience and compromise in social settings, right? BUT.... try to even mention YOUR interests and they look either visibly bored to death, or they may even get up and walk away while your still talking. Man, I've known these guys for 39 years and the infractions are ENDLESS. As a result I've developed an allergy to know-it-alls. Sure there are degrees, and not all are this bad. Some people can pull it off respectfully. If not for the uncles, I probably love Alton to death. As mentioned, I also love Good Eats and have seen them all multiple times and have tried many of those recipes and techniques. But he just looks and talks so exactly like those guys and it forces me to think of things I don't want to remember. Sorry, Alton. You're simply guilty by resemblance.

If I could do this poll over, I'd still leave Alton in. But I'd definitely include Sandra Lee. It was a mistake leaving her off. I've only sat through her show once or twice in absolute horror, but surprised no one here has mentioned her "Tablescapes" as a flash-point annoyance along with rayrays EVOO.
Wow, I feel your pain and I totally understand. My dad is a total know-it-all and it drives me crazy. There isn't anyone that reminds me of him so I don't have any resemblance issues, thank God!

Ethnic diversity is all but gone now. I guess the demographic has spoken and they clearly want more mid-west values; catch phrases; mom/homemaker stuff; and good ol' fashion white folk. The whiter the better it would seem. It's sad and terribly exclusive, but if that's where the money is I guess they have no choice. Luckily we still have PBS and a few other scattered shows, but the programming is limited.

Here's another thought, and my prediction: seeing the phenomenal upswing in "good food" knowledge and interest in America over the past 10 years and the corresponding and inevitable expanding of the American palate, it's only a matter of time before another full-time food channel pops up. Maybe like "The Goumet Channel" or something. Most likely by FoodTV, because they have the means and the stars to get it rolling and money-producing instantly. Like FoodTV2. Watch, people. It'll happen. Leave all the "festivals", "unwrapped", and much other kitsch on one, and more gourmet and international stuff with REAL chefs on the other. Something like that. Unfortunately, they would most likely mix it all up over both, but the extra slots would give them the room to diversify. BUT... whether they take that opportunity to appeal to those of us who DO want diversity or just load up with the same crap will be the question. I'm keeping my fingers crossed for the former. Guess we'll see one of these days.....

Don't you mean Fur Burger, Vertical Taco, Meat Curtains, Fuzzy Donut, Roast Beef smile, Whisker Biscuit, Leg McMuffin, or Bearded Clam ?
