There's also on on Sunset on the border of Hollywood & Silver Lake. Damn I've got a taste for Pioneer now.

Excellent test and reporting. I tried something similar with different kinds of vodka once but could never seen to record the results.

My favorite fried chicken is the "chicken fried chicken" from Rockbottom Brewery. A huge chicken boob is pounded out and fried. I get it with mash potatoes!! I love it!!

Hmmm. Can't believe I didn't see this thread. I grew up in the South and have always loved great fried chicken. Being a bit snobbish about this I think the pickings in Calif are pretty slim. Nonetheless, I will throw in my $0.02.
Of the fast food joints, KFC is still reliable although the sides have deteriorated badly over the years. Church's is just OK. Love Popeye's spicy (when fresh). Haven't tried Louisiana yet but pass the one in Gardena every now and then. Dinah's is awful. I have to laugh about the Pioneer stories. When I first moved here in the mid-eighties I tried Pioneer since it was right around the corner from my apartment. At first, I thought it was the worst chicken ever (unbelieveably greasy). But, I kept going back due to the convenience and got hooked!
You can get fried chicken at Spire's but it isn't very good. When desperate, I'll get the chicken at Knowlwood's -- about 1 small step above tv dinner chicken.
A major step up is Roscoe's -- although a little too dry and overpriced. Mrs. Knott's is good but not great. They tried a restaurant in Irvine a number of years ago but it folded after a year or 2.
Currently, my favorite is the fc at Arnold's in LB (when they fry it up nice and brown). Yum.
