Great Chicago burgers I've had lately.

I had a great Slow Burn burger med rare and some Stone Cali-Belgique IPA to go with it at the Bad Apple on Lincoln Ave

A new location of Kuma's Corner called Kuma's Too is opening next to my work, I look forward to some tasty burgers with some serious metal blasting in the background for lunch. I'm partial to the Mastodon, Pantera and Plague Bringer burgers.

Also, I like the Original Billy Goat Tavern on lower Michigan. The locations at Navy Pier and the Near West side can go **** themselves.
It is probably hyped a little too much, but it is a good no frills cheezboiger. No fries, chips. Double is the best.

Went to The Counter in Torrance recently. Nice place, quality food. It's one of those "check box" menu's, where you check off what you want, from patty, to bun, to everything in between. They offer a lot of non-traditional fillers, like Brie cheese or fried eggs. So you can get some interesting combinations.

My only issue with this place is that it's pretty expensive. Oh, and the onion straws are no big deal.

Oh, and it's right across the street from a Habit location.

I already beat you to Kuma's Corner my friend! Check my initial post. I went there last summer for a wedding and made it a point to go there. It was amazing. Of course other cities are welcome.

The best burger I ever had in Los Angeles was in 1993 at some little sports bar in the San Gabriel area. I didn't have cable television, didn't know the neighborhood, and was driving around aimlessly looking for a place to watch the Kings and Leafs. I found this place by accident, and they had a big screen RPTV showing the game. I ordered a cheeseburger, and it was more than just plump and juicy; it was as if you had just pulled the perfect burger straight off your own backyard barbecue grill.

Meanwhile, my favorite burger currently in Los Angeles is at The Oinkster in Eagle Rock. This is of the basic cheeseburger variety. Classic ingredients, prepared perfectly. That's all you need. If you get the combo, the Belgian fries are amazing and even better with the garlic aioli, if you're into that sort of thing. If you're not, the homemade ketchup is okay, but the spicy homemade ketchup is superb. Even the iced tea here is excellent, as are the shakes. If you're a fan of pumpkin pie and shakes, try the pumpkin pie shake (if they bring it back for the holidays). Everything on the menu here that I've had has been fantastic—house-cured pastrami, pulled pork, red cabbage salad—it's all been fresh and tasty. They have a nice selection of beers as well. I also like Go Burger on the southeast corner of Sunset and Vine. So far I've only had the smashed burger and the falafel burger here, and I like them both so much I might not ever make it further on the menu. The Vidalia onion rings are also a great side as are the waffle fries. The shakes here are pretty good as well, and they make full use of their full bar by also serving shakes with alcohol mixed in some creative and tasty recipes. If you're on the Westside looking for a good hole in the wall, you should go to Hole in the Wall. Nothing but burgers here, but you have your choice of beef, chicken, turkey, veggie and whatever is on the chef's special. These burgers are super fat and fresh. So good. You choose your own build, like The Counter, except this place is much better than The Counter. That's not a knock on The Counter as much as it is an endorsement of Hole in the Wall. They used to be on a little side street near Sepulveda and Santa Monica, but now they are at 2200 Colorado, near Cloverfield. I haven't been to the new location. They also make their own ketchup here, but the real gem, IMO, is the house made ranch dressing. Just thinking about it makes me want some right now. It's great for dipping fries. The only problem is the burgers are so hearty that fries are overkill most of the time. (Hole in the Wall Burger Joint : Santa Monica)

Fat Choy is not a place I thought would ever have a great burger, but they seriously do, better than any of the burger bars in town.

Awww yes, I did go to Bachi Burger when we went out for what was supposed to be Frozen Fury last year. I forget what I got but I remember in being very good in my alcoholic haze.

I'd love to hear some idea around the Long Beach / South Bay area. I love burgers and I'm always on the lookout for an excellent one.

I had a Slaters 50/50 burger the other night. It was pretty darn good.

A little bit farther south, you can try Beachwood Barbeque and The Abbey in Seal Beach. Both of them have pretty nice burgers. With The Abbey, check out their specials, because that is usually where the chef gets creative. Beachwood has a great selection of craft beers as well. The Abbey has some pretty good beers as well, but not as wide of selection.

As a huge beer nut, my wife and I frequent Beachwood about 3-4 times a month. Their burger IMO...meh. It's good, don't get me wrong...but I prefer other things on the menu over that. To each is own, right?
