The wife and I went to Slater's yesterday on our day off. I was a little let down. That might be harsh. It wasn't bad at all, but I think I had it built up to be more. I got the original 50/50 and it certainly tasted of bacon. The bacon ketchup is insane thought. I'd go back and try another one for sure though.

If you get the combo, the Belgian fries are amazing and even better with the garlic aioli, if you're into that sort of thing. If you're not, the homemade ketchup is okay, but the spicy homemade ketchup is superb. Even the iced tea here is excellent, as are the shakes. If you're a fan of pumpkin pie and shakes, try the pumpkin pie shake (if they bring it back for the holidays). Everything on the menu here that I've had has been fantastic—house-cured pastrami, pulled pork, red cabbage salad—it's all been fresh and tasty. They have a nice selection of beers as well. (The Oinkster Restaurant | Eagle Rock California)

I also like Go Burger on the southeast corner of Sunset and Vine. So far I've only had the smashed burger and the falafel burger here, and I like them both so much I might not ever make it further on the menu. The Vidalia onion rings are also a great side as are the waffle fries. The shakes here are pretty good as well, and they make full use of their full bar by also serving shakes with alcohol mixed in some creative and tasty recipes. I like to stop here when going to Arclight Hollywood. (Go Burger Los Angeles, Go Burger LA, Burgers Los Angeles California)
I am intrigued by The Oinkster, but a couple of people I know got food poisoning from there, so that's enough to make me just take your word for it. Go Burger is good, but I prefer Stout over Go, and even over Umami. If you're making that Arclight excursion again, go to Stout. It's on Cahuenga just north of Sunset, corner of Cahuenga and Selma in the little center with Big Wang's and District 13. Though, Go's duck fat fries are pretty tasty. Then again, duck fat seems to make everything better.

Sad to hear about The Oinkster. I used to live in Eagle Rock and ate there frequently. No problems. I did stop in there a couple of times since then, and one of the times, the smell concerned me. No food poisoning, but I did my dining outside. I guess I'll keep going back, but that report concerns me.

    Meanwhile, Stout, here I come.

The old school theme is not just for show. They run the place just like they did in the old days.

I took my family to The Oinkster a couple of years ago after they were featured on Diners, Drive-ins and Dives. And honestly, we thought it was no big deal. Not bad, but not great.

I've had that one, very good and indeed spicy! I don't eat bacon so I had an all beef patty, no mayo, and it was filling!

there's one in east Pasadena. I checked it out one time and it was IMHO better than The Habit, with gourmet burgers and stuff. Hook also has crafts beer on the menu, so it gets my vote.

Tried Hook Burger. The patty was a little over done but over all a good burger. Sweet potato fries were excellent as were the onion rings. The regular fries however were not very good.
