    Default Hamasaku (Sushi)

Anyone ever been there? It's located on Santa Monica Blvd. by Sepulveda and I swear it's some of the best sushi I've ever had. Small and pricey, but it's worth it if you like to try unique sashimi and sushi roll dishes.

Apparently it's also a spot to see celebs and industry heavyweights if that's your thing...

I believe I have eaten there - in the corner of that little strip mall, right? they have rolls named after all kinds of celebs?

It tasted okay to me. I've had better sushi for less. and I can certainly just ask for the roll combinations at other sushi places as well.

For better sushi, try Hiko Sushi on the NE corner of National and Sawtelle (right next to the WaMu bank). the sushi chef goes to the fish market every day. awesome sushi.

Everybody always bitches about the price. Simply put, there are several amazing sushi places in Los Angeles and everybody has their favorites. I wanted to share this info because I believe they have unique rolls and sashimi and I don't think you can argue that.

Great place. Pricey, but worth it.

It isn't a price issue for me. it is a "does this place blow my mind" issue. perhaps I should have said, "they are decent although they didn't blow my mind".

When I was going to Hamasaku two and three years ago it was the absolute BEST sushi - bar none - in Los Angeles, and I'm Japanese, and my mom cuts sashimi, and yes, that makes me a professional critic.

But it's a couple of years later and with the fame that place has gotten, there is a likelihood that they've slacked a bit with their quality. They're making hand over fist in profits so it makes sense.

Haven't had too much of the sushi on Sawtelle, mostly curry and ramen and other stuff. I'll try Hiko next time I'm out there, and hopefully it won't be as mediocre as all the other places friends have recommended over the years.
