Ian, I'm with you on this tried and true technique, I just thought the novelty of this guy's technique was cool.
I too put a bit of vinegar in with the cold water at the beginning to prevent the "egg drop soup" looking leakage by the time the eggs are done. Also, I'm not soo sure how well the vinegar residue would go with the baking soda recommended in my link.
