Thread: I love Yelp!

I love using yelp. I also know that business can pay to get bad reviews removed. and I also know that yelp was being sued by businesses because they see this as extortion.

so how do we find each other's reviews on that site?

My friend calls me a yelp freeloader cuz I never review anything and just use it to find places to eat. I'll look up my user name when I'm home if anyone cares. I might start reviewing more. We'll see.

When adding L.A. Kings to the "things I like" list, the window dropped down saying that there were x number of people with the same. I wondered if any of those were LGK peeps.

so strange....I know I've posted at least 2 reviews before...but not there any more.

Mexican- Casa Mendoza, 36901 Cook, Palm Desert (I-10 @ Cook). You can even find 20% coupons too online for this place. Chips and salsa were pretty good. I love the chicken tortilla soup (all white meat!!) and I have the spicy chicken ceasar salad. It was good!

Pizza and Italian- The Slice, 72775 Dinah Shore, Rancho Mirage (I-10 @ Monterey). Where do i start with this place. The service is great. They give you nice hot bread with olive oil. I had the mozorella sticks and they were the best I have ever had. Like they were home made. Had a NY style pizza. Above average. Took home a piece of chocolate cake. The cake was about 6" high. I love cake but after eating this, I was sick of chocolate cake. Overall, I was impressed. Not expensive either.

Sushi-Mushasi, 72785 Hwy 111, Palm Desert. Very good service there too. A little more expensive. I am picky but had salmon sashimi and a dragon roll (shrimp tempura with spicy tuna on top). It was really good.

We also went to Ruth's Chris right down the road. The G/f and our 3 daughters. That was about 3 C notes!!! but good food and service there too.


I hope this helps. Remember, I am a blue collar guy. I am not a total food snob but I think I can tell you places that has decent food. So your mileage may vary!!!

wow bad! thanks for the detailed info. I'll give those places a try & I'll be traveling with my kid so I wouldn't be able to eat at any really chichi places anyway. I'm definitely into Mexican, pizza & sushi when I travel in CA so that's perfect!

how old is the youngest kid that you took along to ruth's Chris? I've never been but i'm not a huge steakhouse fan. I'd be willing to try it though...

I have had this argument with Kingsqueen a few times and at the risk of being called a dinosaur I will try to present my opinion. Remember the days before yelp when you saw a new restaurant and you said...hmmm, maybe I will give it a try. You went in and either liked or disliked it. Some of your friends did too and either liked or disliked it, not necessarily agreeing with you. Now, no one tries anything...they see a new place and look on yelp. If they read negative reviews they stay away. Man if I had a dime for every place that was recommended to me that I didn't care for, or vice versa...well I would have some dimes. It's not to say that yelp can't be used as a tool, but I think too many people rely on it to the point that they may not try a place and maybe find something that they love. Or I may just be too old.

I like to try new places, especially hole in the wall joints. I've been the first to review quite a few places when I remember to do a review.
