Default Johnie's Broiler rescued by Big Boy

Bob's Bob's Big Boy to retain the iconic landmark sign and operate from the premise.

I've followed a story sometime last year or so when the demolition crew was ordered to stop with the destruction, just when they were about to tear down the sign. as of last week, the building was still half demo'd, such a sad sight to see.

it is great news from Big Boy, however.

Here it is in its original incarnation -

As a huge fan of mid-century modern and Googie architecture / design (grew up with it), I'm glad to hear this news.

Can't wait to check it out once the work is completed...

    An aerial view.

And if I'm correct, this is not too far from the original McDonalds.

Wow, that is a sad site. But I'm very glad they plan to restore it.

Cheers to Bob's...Im glad to see this happening. Im a huge fan of their place in Toluca Lake and the fact they seem to take pride in this kind of thing is heartening. I will patronize their location in Torrance tomorrow for a breakfast buffet to show my thanks.

If you had zoomed out a little bit in that picture you would be able to see my aunt and uncle's place.

It's not the original McDonalds in Downey, that was in San Bernardino I believe. The one in Downey is the oldest one still operating, but I think the 3rd or 4th one overall.
