It is a risk in Downey, try Lakewood. A nice seafood place.

I've lived in Downey 30+ years. Here's the best restaurants in the city.

    1.
    Gloria's Cocina Mexicana
    Category: Mexican
    7401 Florence Avenue
    Downey, CA 90240
    (562) 776-1488

Gloria's is one of the best Mexican restaurants I've ever had.

Fresh tortillas made in the dining area. Get the Molcajetes bowl. Served with Mexican cheese, cactus, steak, chicken, shrimp, etc....

    2.
    Marisa's *link*
    11949 Paramount Blvd
    Downey, CA 90242
    (562) 861-1783‎

Great Mexican food here also. The chili verde plate is great as is their chili colorado.

    3.
    Ceviche Del Rey‎
    7404 Florence Ave
    Downey, CA‎
    (562) 806-4033‎

Across the street from Gloria's this place has Peruvian cuisine. The sauces the chef creates are awesome. Try the Aji De Gallina plate. Shredded chicked cooked in a mild curry sauce served on top of steamed round potato & rice pilaf.

Their full or half chicked plate is great also.

    4.
    Chris' & Pitt's
    9243 Lakewood Blvd
    Downey, CA
    (562) 869-9069‎

Screw the haters. Get a full rack of baby back ribs and you decide. Absolutely delicious.

    5.
    Pina Pizza House
    11102 Paramount Blvd
    Downey, CA 90241
    (562) 923-4411‎

In Downey since the 50's family owned and operated. Get a pizza and anti pasta salad.

My aunt and uncle have lived in Downey forever too and if they're going for pizza, they'll usually go to Downey Pizza Company for the Pastrami Pizza.

That's right, pizza with pastrami, mustard, and pickles.

I can vouch for this place, as well. I had the half plate of chicken and it was superb.
