already, one start-up brewery was denied license to produce because of the same "farmer-brewer" regulation just recently enacted.

While I'm certainly not in favor of more restrictions for craft breweries, the alternative is to pay a $5000 license fee and really, in these hard economic times when state governments are trying to keep afloat, is that idea so detestable?

I don't like the law they state simply that it would put an artificial cap on the # of breweries there since all the breweries would be contacting the same farms for the same grains which might create unnatural inflation.

Still, I've heard of worse things. Don't have an article to link but one state was enacting stricter rules for craft breweries under the reasoning that they were creating too free a market place. Apparently that's as much rationale one could brainstorm up when Inbev and Molson/Coors are flooding your pockets with cash.

I see what you are getting at, but getting slapped with outrageous licensing fees because of state governments and their wasteful spending? Not fair to let brewers help pick up that tab.
