    Default Manwich...

Recently reacquainted myself with a childhood fave. Kingsqueen laughs at my white trash love for sloppy joes...is there something wrong with me? Anyone else who cannot refuse the saucymeaty hot dog/hamburger roll filler? I hesitate to alter such a wonderful staple...but any recipe ideas would be looked upon favorably.

I have always found this 'wich' to be vile. When I was a kid, I spent the night at a friends house and his mom tried to force feed me this junk. She got pissed because I wouldn't eat the whole thing and said I was waisting food. At that point in time I knew she was bat-**** crazy because it was about $0.20 worth of food in 1983. Who the **** doesn't have $0.20?

I've never touched the stuff since.

I would however be a manwich in a play if I could wear the cool outfit.

haha, my parents used to get pissed if i couldn't finish my food when i was a kid. my dad was REALLY poor in a 3rd world country when he was little so he remembers starving when he was young. then when my parents fled the country, they started off with very little money, so again--more being hungry. so you know... $.20 to you is nothing and even if it's a little amount, for people who had a hard time procuring food, it's an insult to them when you refuse any kind of sustenance.
i'm not saying it's right but that's just how it is with them.

then again, i have no idea what your friend's mom's background is. she could very well have been bats*** crazy.

Early 30's white woman who's husband was a truck driver. My childhood friend had more crap to play with than I did, so I presume they were better off than my family was. I just thought the stuff was gross. Its not a burger, its not spagetti... wtf is it? It's slop on a bun.
I know where you're coming from lunchie. My folks (and me by extention) were dirt poor as well, and I usually ate anything that was put in front of me. This and one other gawd aweful concoction my mother made one time were the only things I ever did not finish as a kid.
I ate fried balogna sandwiches for **** sake! They were just balogna cooked in a pan till it coned up and smushed into bread with catsup.
Sorry if I offended you lunchie. Now read my disclaimer below...

What's wrong with fried bologna?! It was a staple when I was a kid, I loved it! My son is a big fan of fried Mortadella (as am I).

I've never tried a sloppy joe. Or a Manwich, for that matter.

Manwiches! I rarely eat them anymore, but they are great. Try it with ground turkey.
