I can never get a hold of their stuff. I blame BeerMan for drinking it all. Been hitting Lagunitas IPA hard. Can't go wrong when you get couple of cases for free.

I haven't seen Just Outstanding in quite a while. Don't even mention Citra. However, Class V seems to be easier to get, thank the lawd. Can't wait for Lagunitas Sucks to come back around. I really enjoyed what I had.

interesting that the JOs are becoming scarce in the outlying areas.

as luck would have it, a couple of friends are heading up the Kern River and stopping by the KRBC this weekend. I've loaned them my growlers that need to be filled. among the beers that I want are their XPA and the 6th Anni. release. 3rd choice obviously would be the JO.

as for the Class V being more readily available, I wonder about that as well.

edit: just came across the news on KRBC's facebook page that they have been trying to keep up with the demand. and they don't have plans for expansion. no wonder.

Been on vacation for the last week, drinking SN's Hoptimum. Tasty stuff.

We all have beers we love, and some we won't drink. But, I respect whatever a person chooses to enjoy.

But IPA's are far and above my favorite style.

I'm sorry but I just don't think that many of the IPAs that I've tasted recently are that different from the other 17-kabillion other IPAs out there. I love hops, don't get me wrong. A couple of summers ago I toured the Hop Union plant in Yakima WA where they process and package all the hops from the Yakima Valley, and it was amazing. They do some seriously freaky crap with hops like make aftershave and icecream. But anyway, in recent years I haven't really seen a huge difference with IPAs in general. What I have seen is what I'd like to think of as taking a dark malty beer and adding a ****load of hop varietals to it and making the hops the star of the brew, not the malt.

In my mind I want something that's balanced and brings out the subtle flavors and aromas of the entire beer, not just the hops. Classic belgian beers come to mind like Fantome and Gulden Drakk, or my fav... Chimay Blue. Neither overly malty nor overly hoppy, these beers bring out the many different flavors like in the case of Fantome, wild strawberry, or Gulden Drakk a nice cocoa flavor. You get my point. But stuff like that Ruination IPA from Stone is just cracked out. I dig the Double Arrogant because that yeast strain that they use makes it almost sweet and the send a right-cross to your senses with that lingering flavor on the tounge.

But I digress. IPAs are out and about right now because you can throw a ton of hops in and **** with the beer in a good way I guess. I'd just like to see brewers try to extract as much flavor out of the beer without resorting to this. In my mind, hops are to beer like bacon is to a burger. Sure its good and all, but there is a saturation point, and it needs to be scaled back from there to let the rest of the flavors come out.

Flame me all you want. Someone’s got to have a differing opinion than the primate and Mr. Beer himself. I guess I'll be that guy.
