i grew up in Monterey Park and a place i've gone to for years has not only been a favorite of mine, but my wife loves it as well, is JJ Cafe on 447 West Garvey Avenue Monterey Park, CA 91754-1690 - the cross st. is Ynez, which is between Garfield and Atlantic on the north side of the street.

yes! that place is so good. i was born in MP and grew up in rosemead, haven't been to JJ's in a while though, now i'm craving it...

Probably too late for your wife's bday, but I second Yang Chow as a great option near Staples (it's my pregame meal spot most of the time). Another SGV option is Full House Seafood:

Have you ever hit up New China off of Foothill in between Central and Benson in Upland.

Check it out if you ever have the time. We've been ordering from them for 20 years.

Chen's on Broadway and Temple in Long Beach is the BEST. Huge servings, low prices and VERY fresh ingredients.
