Default Need LA Beach Recommendations for April 2015

Taking the family to Disneyland in April 2015 and afterwards want to spend some time around LA area beaches. I have young boys ages 6 and 7 so I'm looking for something that is good for families. We will be there around April 5th (Easter) and I'm guessing the weather will be too cold to go in the water so it will be just us hanging out on the sand and taking in the views. Any recommendations on what beach to visit and nice hotels you like? Also would prefer something where you can buy food on the beach at one of those tiki huts with good seafood and drink. Hopefully you LA natives will have some favorites you can recommend me. Much appreciated - thx!

Paradise Cove is nice and they have a private beach. Its a bit of a drive, but that just gives you an excuse to drive along the coast.

Near Los Angeles on Pacific Coast Highway

To me the best beach in SoCal is Laguna Beach. It's walkable, beautiful, and quieter than most beach cities.. It's very classy and quaint. Live it up and stay here:

The water will be pretty cold. If it's just playing in the sand it really depends on the other surrounding experiences you want to have. Venice and Santa Monica pier are iconic if you want to do the tourist trap thing. Depending on where you're traveling to the beach from Manhattan, Hermosa, Redondo and Torrance beaches are all sandy beaches which are a straight shot west (91 freeway west) from the Anaheim resort area. Seal, Huntington and Newport are straight south shots. Newport will have a bit of high roller atmosphere about it (you will never see more bentley's on the road). Further south there are some really nice places.
Other nearybye hidden gems are Belmont shores near Long Beach (used to be anyway).
All the beaches are fantastic, use caution if you decide to go in. The surrounding communities are also typically very laid back and you can have a nice taste of what keeps many people putting up with California prices and traffic.

I'll second mrm55s suggestion of the Montage, and a few miles from there is the Beachcomber, The BeachcomberŽ at Crystal Cove - thebeachcombercafe.com, not a hotel, but a good way to spend a day at the beach.

Hermosa Beach is also a good option.
