it's not bad around here, either.

the local joints are either poo or don't deliver to us ("I'm sorry, you are .2 miles outside our delivery range. Would you like us to prepare it for pick up instead??" - at least they gave me a discount for the inconvenience...). That thermometer thing and the website has been set up that way for at least a year. the new revamp of the pie is a vast improvement from what it was and for what is available in my area puts it solidly in the 2-3 position behind JoJo's Pizza Kitchen and tied or ahead of the Pizza Factory (one of the few that hasn't been bought out) depending on the day.

Im also not the biggest fan of the texture of the hand tossed, but going to the thin crust or the brooklyn style still gives the garlic flavor of the new crust without the chewiness of the hand tossed, so that might be worth a try next time if you arent against a thin slice.

I couldn't disagree more. BJ's a poor excuse for deep dish pizza.

I'm embarrassed to say it but, Sbarro Brooklyn-style slices are like crack to me. Love it.

BJ's is an absolute abomination BTW.

Vons' take-and-bake pizzas are actually pretty damned good. They're a tad big (and when I say that, I mean they don't fit completely into our giant convection oven with the door closed...the last inch-and-a-half by the door gets slightly folded during backing...oh well), but the taste is great. We usually go for the four-cheese version.

Agreed. I've eaten twice at BJ's and wasn't in the least impressed. Terrible, actually. If I want deep-dish, there's actually still a good Numero Uno near my wife's old work. Used to go for lunch there all the time, and it had great pizza.

That's crazy talk, right there. Anything I've ever had from Sbarro has been just awful, whether it be their pizza or pasta.

Famous Famiglia, on the other hand, has been pretty good. There's one of them in the PHX airport and I'll stop and get a slice from time to time.

I have a gourmet restaurant with a wood burning pizza oven across the street but I pass on their thin crust pizzas for the calzones, they are incredible.

Like others in this thread we're stuck in the no good local place for delivery zone. The one local place is a cheap place. I haven't been real fond of their pizza ever since the time my friends and I ordered a pizza and salad and we found a dead fly in the salad. The salad was a small side salad that was free with a coupon anyways. We called them to complain/let them know their salad had insects and their attitude was more of the "What do you want us to do about it?" instead of being apologetic or offering to somehow fix the problem.

A new Shakey's just opened probably less than a mile from here. I went one night to pick up a pizza. The place was super crowded as it had been open less than a week, and the former Sizzler building had no empty tables. However it took them 45 minutes to make my small pizza (I was quoted a time of 20 minutes). My dad used to work in the restaurant business so I think I can be pretty patient and understanding that things go wrong in the kitchens sometimes. I also understand things are going to be a bit busy/hectic at a new location but that was a bit ridiculous. It was a to go order but at the same time an offer of "We're sorry about the wait, would you like a soda while waiting" would have been nice. The pizza was ok. I might have been a bit annoyed which might have changed my impression on the food. It was better than the local Pizza Hut, Papa Johns options. Not as good as Round Table, which I'll only get if I'm at Stater Bros cuz we're out of the delivery area and they're in the same parking lot.

If my family goes out for pizza, they're going to either Domenico's in Belmont Shore for the ground pepperoni pizza or Downey Pizza Co for pastrami pizza.

I'm hurt by all of you.
