The "New" Domino's Pizza...
Anyone ordered anything from there since they sort-of revamped things a bit?
I long ago lost interest in their pizza. But after seeing their latest commercials (and the issues I've had recently with delivery pizza...one big-name <cough>PAPAJOHN'SSUCKS<cough> and one local establishment) I decided to give them another try the next time we had any inclination to do the pizza thing.
Tonight, we did it.
First, their new website is SLICK. The primary feature we were impressed with was their build-it-to-suit nutritional info section. We built the two medium pizzas we wanted and determined the nutritional value of each slice of that pizza before we ordered it. That made their product very compatible with the eating program we've been on for the last four months by allowing us to change sizes and toppings to keep each slice to a relatively optimized energy-content-per-serving level. A slice from a medium sausage and olive pizza was 217 calories. That's a nice feature when you're cheating on the program but don't want to go too crazy!
The other feature the website had was a built-in order-tracker that shows you the to-the-minute status of your order on a thermometer-like gauge. We watched this thing very closely, and every time it updated and moved to the next step in the process (processing, preparing, baking, out-for-delivery, delivered), we looked at our watches. Just as the gauge updated to "Delivered!" our doorbell rang. No ****. It was 28 minutes from the payment of our order to the doorbell ringing. Lightning fast, still steaming, and delivered by a very cordial, cheerful, and polite young man who thanked us for our business!
The new crust is dusted down with garlic powder and (I think) cornmeal. It was very tasty...more so than I remember Domino's crust being...yet it unfortunately still had that characteristic Domino's texture that I never really cared for. Juuust a bit too chewy...a bit too elastic after being baked. But that's a personal preference thing rather than a quality thing, I think.
The new sauce is very very good, in my opinion. It had a slight spicy bite to it, the way good pizza sauce should. It was a nice upgrade to their old sauce, which I'd always thought was a bit bland.
Our pies were simple, so I can't really comment on the quality of most of their ingredients. Their cheese was always pretty good to me, and tonight's pies were no different. The pepperoni was more thickly-sliced than I recall it being, which is good. Everything tasted pretty good, I thought.
To sum it up, I was pleased enough with the experience that I would order from Domino's again the next time our lives call for delivery pizza. It's still not the be-all and end-all of pizza, but it was pretty darned good.
