Default New Restaurants Around Staples Reviews

Hey - Not sure if this has been talked about (didn't see anything...) but...anyone been to the new places at the former ESPN Zone?

    Smash Burger?
    Tom's Urban?
    That Pizza place?

Been to Smash - Not bad.
Been to Tom's - Security Guards are schmucks...
Pizza place looks and smells cheap.

    Anyone else?

a bit off topic, but there's a Smash Burger that opened earlier this year in Monrovia. checked it out last week and it was just ok. nothing to sneeze at. the garlic fries were ok and the burgers were too greasy. I may need to try the chicken sandwich and the onion rings before deciding to avoid that crappy joint.

A buddy and I ate at Smash before one of the playoff games vs. the Quacks.

We both had the chicken sandwich, and agreed it was a big loser. Just like you say the burger was, the chicken sammich was dripping with grease; I don't recall ever seeing that with a grilled chicken sandwich before.

Not to mention, setting the greasy taste aside, there was no flavor at all. The sandwich was just a bland greaseball with wilted lettuce.

The fries, despite hearing how great SB's fries are, were just meh.

To me, the fries at a chain called Philly's Best (well done, since I like my fries crispy) are the PERFECT fry, as they actually taste like, wait for it.....POTATOES, without being coated in some kind of crappy, weird tasting coating/batter. Just a simple, skin-on fry does it for me.

I don't think I ever need to step foot in a SB ever again.

I sure with they had some other non-sit-down resto options at LA Live. While I love it, I'm getting rather tired of Lawry's Carvery.

I must have been unlucky. The one and only time we tried Lawry's, the food was cold and it wasn't busy. 2-3 people in front of us and plenty of room to sit down. Sliced pork with gravy, and cold. Never went back

Had a light meal again at Smash this past weekend as I was shopping @ Team LA store. Stacked onion was the only stuff I ordered and really the only item on the menu worthy of ordering for my taste buds. Place was packed that day as graduating class members using Staples for their ceremony and some wannabe Harlem Globetrotters (forgot the name of their group) setting up at LA Live and their fans were dining in there.

Do you know why? That place usually looks kinda full pre-game. Post-game, not so much (they always close early or something..)

While it seems like most of you are allergic to the "like" button, I just want to personally say thanks for looking anyway.

It looks like they are renovating the building. They are converting some of the parking garage into shops it looks like. That might have something to do with it.
