Default Not like mom used to make

My mom wasn't the greatest cook in the world.

She didn't make anything fancy, but there are a couple things that she made that can't be topped.

I don't know what her recipe was, but she used to make the best effin pizza ever.

Nothing special about the ingredients; dough, sauce, meat & cheese, but GD it, I have yet to have a pie as good. Maybe it was the homemade dough. I dunno.

The other thing was goulash. Again, nothing special about the ingredients, but put it all together and it was the BEST. I think what triggered me to make this post was when I was making eggs this morning, I grilled up some onions and it reminded me of the onion she used to put in the goulash.

What did your mom used to make, or still does, that can't be topped?

Cornflake chicken. Little tenders of heaven on a plate with mashed potatos.

She also makes the best matzah ball soup ever.

We called it "Norwegian Spaghetti" and I'd rather eat glass than have it ever again.

My mom makes great Pupusas and an unreal Thanksgiving turkey. All my friends rave about her chicken enchiladas too.

the thing I miss the most about my mom's cooking is the breaded porkchops with mashed potatoes and vegs.

    other notable dishes:
    stuffed bell peppers
    spaghetti
    goulash
    German pizza
    stuffed cabbage
    chicken parmeson

    edit: meatloafs. can't forget that.

eggrolls, she grinds the meat up herself, mixes it with glass noodles, carrots and black woodear mushrooms.

turkey enchiladas, made with the leftovers from thanksgiving turkey.

    oxtail soup.

    mac n cheese.

banh canh cua, rice & tapioca noodle with dungeness crab soup.

there's others i can't think of right now. she's taught me how to make most of the above, but she just makes it better because she's my mom.

    Homemade donuts
    Pancakes from scratch
    Chocolate cake...from scratch...

When I was a kid, all of my friends wanted to sleep over to just get either the donuts or the pancakes for breakfast...good stuff!
