PF Changs is on par with Red Robin and California Pizza Kitchen. Its ethnic mall food. Expecting an authentic chinese meal at a place like that is unrealistic.
The food is nothing special. I could cook a more authentic chinese meal at home. They just use decent quality ingredients and make their restaurants look trendy. I have no problem eating there, the brown rice is cooked good.
this has NOTHING to do with authenticity. i'm fairly together upstairs enough to know what i'm about to eat.
i have never seen cashew-nut anything nor brown rice at a real Chinese joint, so i know what to kind of expect from a place like this.
again though, the problem isn't its lack of coolness or authenticity, the problem is that their food sucks and because of the fact that many of these dishes are essentially spins on nouveau-Hong Kong faire, of which MSG is used to flavor the food, the resulting salt lick like performance of the alternative leaves a little more than a lot to be desired.

but uh ya. it's my general feeling that when ethnic food is americanized, it SUUUUUUCKS. kind of like job's example of olive garden, the few times i've been forced to eat there by a collection of acquaintances' choice, i found their food to be both bland and too salty at the same time.
OK agreed, Chang's is more of a "mall" type of food. So where's an authentic Chinese rest? Always wanted to try Tommy Chu's in Hollywood. Anybody got a favorite place I can take the wifey to?

I don't care if it's authentic. I care if it's good. I find P.F. Changs to be either bland or too salty... and I love salt.
I once had some one tell me that I don't know Italian food because I didn't like some place... I am Italian.
I've been to several " authentic" Chinese restaurants and hated every one. One place we ordered fish and they brought out the whole ****ing fish, it was looking at me while I picked at its flesh. I'll take Lee's Wok on Roscoe and DeSoto any day.
