The ones at Vons are SELECT and I imagine that the ones at the Beef Palace are CHOICE if not PRIME. There is a huge difference from one grade to the next in price and texture.

I paid the same amount too for prime rib w/ baked potato @ Ikea... Good stuff!

Ralphs has a choice section in most locations (size varies by store, I've found), and usually has Filet Mignon, Ribeye, New York, Porterhouse and T-Bone available.

We made a 15-pound prime rib (with ribs) for Christmas. It was absolutely devine. We bought it at Sam's Club for $50.00. (~$3.30/lb)

Beef Palace kicks ass! Great quality meat and don't let the name fool you - one time I was in there and you could buy a whole pig head!

I've never cooked a large prime rib. :(
For special dinners or when I'm not too lazy I hit up this company's places here in SD for my meat.
