I think you're a little confused here and apologies if I'm jumping in inappropriately....It should be noted that "malt liquor" is just a naming convention forced upon brewers by the ABA or some other regulatory body. It has no basis in anything other than to force brewers to flag a high gravity brew (I think those at 5%+ ABV but I'm not sure). So to say that Spaten Optimator violates the Reinheitsgebot b/c it's labeled in North America as a "malt liquor" is incorrect. The Reinheitsgebot simply notes that beer be made only from water, barley, and hops (it was written in the days before Pasteur so they didn't know about yeast....). I'm pretty damn sure that Spaten Optimator, which is actually a Doppelbock, falls fully within the confines of the Reinheitsbebot. OK, I'm done being anal for the day! Time for a beer isn't it?

Not to get too snippy, but I think you need to read the label.

You are correct about the Reinheitsgebot and the usage of yeast (yes, orinally beer was spontaneously fermented by wild yeast or by the transfer of yeast from one batch of beer to the next), but the beer clearly states that it’s a "Malt Liquor". If the beer was a true dopplebock it would be labeled as such by the company that makes it. As far as I know it is only illegal in Germany to call a something a beer if it’s classified as something else. Hence it is labeled a "Malt Liquor" by the company that makes it. I'm not exactly sure about the laws in America and labeling of what is "beer", but I believe that the Reinheitsgebot only holds true in Germany. Where it is a law.

We may be arguing semantics over this, so why don't we drop the conversation after this. Reply if you like, I won't.

Daxx, I second Lone Hill. It's a bit of a drive for me, but their selection is great. I hit up Liquorama a bit more than Az, just because I seem to be heading that way more often. The only problem with Lone Hill, is that you better be prepared to spend some money, because as a beer lover, it is hard to walk out the door without buying twice the beer you planned on picking up.

    Wasn't thinking of anything specific
Like in a dream, when someone wakes up and screams
    Nothing too very scientific
Just thinking of a series of dreams

It's not a big deal other than to educate, but the "malt liquor" that is stamped on the label is something that Spaten is forced to do by US law. Spaten Optimator IS a doppelbock whether it's on the label or not and it's only a "malt liquor" in the eyes of US law b/c of it's high ABV%.

Here are some links that might clarify better than I can.

Beerman, I believe they added a 3rd shelf, not to mention the coolers.
