I just tried one of those huge bottles of Stone IPA and I gotta say this is a great beer. I always avoided it because it's from San Diego County but it's very clean with just a little bite and not what I expected at all. The trendy label kind of put me off too, but this is now one of my faves. I also got some Booneville Christmas Ale or something like that that goes well with the Stone IPA. Both are great craft beers. THey were all out of the Deschutes Mirror Pond so I picked up some Deschutes Black Butte Porter, which has a bit more body than the Booneville and the Stone pale ales.

Oh yeah I also picked up some Monty Python's Holy Grail Ale.

    Greetings, Gents (and women-folk too),
I have spent this weekend with a couple of fresh 2005 Stone Brewery Double Bastard Ales. They are everything a Double Bastard Ale should be: too much flavor and goodness for the average person, and more than enough power to kick even the toughest man's ass. I loved it and will be getting ahold of as much of this year's batch as I possibly can.

I just bucked up and bought a 3 litre huge bottle of the Oaked Arrogant Bastard. When the right occasion comes along and I have at leat one other drinker to help me, I can't wait to bust it open.

I might have missed it, but did anyone try the Stone 9th Anniversary yet? I bought some for my dad and he really liked it a lot. I haven't had the chance to try it yet myself.

I don't think you'll have any trouble finding that one other drinker. I might even be willing to vote for a Republican.

foof, the 9th anniversary is called the Heat Seeking Wheat Ale. great stuff.

doug, I finally tried the Yuengling, and as is the case of getting my expectations high, I certainly was not too impressed with it. perhaps it was bottled is why. or maybe I shouldn't have tried it after finishing a Sam Adams from the tap.

btw, I had a Boddington from the tap for the first time. I thought it should have been a dark beer, like a stout, it looked more like a lager. the alcohol content is still high.

reporting from the Dive Bar in NYC..... their Philly cheese steak was pretty good.
I BELIEVE I'll have another beer!

For you stout lovers, may I suggest Lagunitas Brewing Cappuccino Stout. It may be hard to find, because it released in October for a very limited time. I found some at Hollingshead Deli in Orange, but you may find it at other places serving Lagunitas. A really smooth stout with a strong cappuccino flavor. Excellent beer on a cold night. The deli had it on tap which I sampled, and ended up buying a bottle to take home. My only regret is I didn't buy more.
