The recommend-a-beer thread

Tried 2 great brews at Beachwood BBQ last night. First, Psychopuck and I both ordered Port's Mongo. Great double IPA!!!!! Psychopuck continued the IPA route and got Alesmith's IPA.

I went in a different direction and got Allagash 2010 Fluxus. INFREAKINGCREDIBLE. To me it is up there with Dogfish Head's World wide stout. over 10% alcohol, dark stout flavor with a nice chocolate sweetness. BLISS.

Last night I had an Angel City Ale from Angel City Brewing. Nice beer. Similar to a darker domestic in that it was well balanced, crisp, and easy to drink. Pretty unoffensive all around.

Right now I'm working on a Mission Brewery Amber Ale. Took me about a whole 3 minutes to pour it because the head was so damn large and creamy (save the innuendo). Hazy amber/honey color with a very slightly skunky nose. Taste is better than aroma. Malty backbone with a small hop finish. More fuller bodied and flavored than the Angel City Ale.

Between the two I'd reach for another bottle of the Mission.

That's too bad. IWB is a regular pit stop while cruising up 395 for some fishing. Last time I was there a worker handed me a Labotomy Bock right off the fill line. I always grab a sampler case. The only one I really did not like was the smoked porter.

I somewhat agree on the Mojave Gold though. Good if it is 110 degrees outside.

Yeah then think of how bad a stout would be in that weather.
The ultimate test of a beer is the ability to drink at is room temperature.

just had Samuel Smith Oatmeal Stout.

Excellent point. The beer probably tastes better because I'm on vacation too. Just like that wine that tasted great at the winery but not so much at home.

Never had a SS I did not like. I have not had the oatmeal stout in a long while.

I don't think that beer would be drinkable. It would have to be over 12% alcohol and the hops would pretty much be gone by then.
