Took a last second roadie to the Getty yesterday. Braved the Sunday traffic from SLO all the way down - which turned out OK. After the Getty all we wanted to do was get to Mohawk Bend for something great on tap. So, OK, the REAL reason for driving down was to end up there....Anyway, if you haven't been there yet, I'd highly suggest going b/c they have a really nice tap selection going. Further, since I live in Russian River Brewing distribution dead zone, i.e., none of the local distributors are worth a **** b/c they can't commit to keeping their beers cold, we are unable to get Russian River Brewing beers here in SLO. Hence, my fascination with Pliny the Elder when somebody brings a few bottles back. Back on track, we ended up at Mohawk Bend around 7 and instead of ordering the Pliny I decided to get the Blind Pig IPA b/c I've heard from many that they like it BETTER than Pliny. I thought that this was impossible. BUT - IT'S - NOT! Consider me a convert to the Blind Pig IPA bandwagon. I like it better than the Pliny, especially after doing a side by side comparison last night. More balanced, less heavy, a bit more restrained on the alcohol, super delicious aroma, perfect mouthfeel. So, here is yet another "high recommended" IPA for you all - Blind Pig IPA from Russian River Brewing. Seek it out, drink it, and enjoy a world class IPA. We will be heading back for more in a couple of weeks.

Lastly, we are heading down for a 3 day visit to Solana Beach. Any suggestions on bars close by that have a great tap selection? I doubt we leave the environs so something close by/short cab ride would be ideal. Looking forward to suggestions.

Bottles of Blind Pig seem to be easier to get than PtE, however finding PtE on tap seems to be easier than Blind Pig.

Eureka Burger in Claremont rotates them, but I agree, that Pliny seems to be in a heavier rotation. Lonehill Liquor in Glendora usally has both in bottles.
    Wasn't thinking of anything specific

Just because I want to get flamed,

I recommend the new Bud Light Platinum. It's very light and refreshing, and has 6% alch to boot. I'm looking forward to consuming quite a few of these on my next trip to Florida.

There's a time and place for Bud/Miller/Coors and it's referred to as "camping".
